Job Description
What if you could tell whether a game will sell before you build it?
That's the bet behind Lake System. Hi, I'm Artem, founder of a Berlin/Lisbon PC studio built as a "game factory" - and I'm looking for our next Game Designer/Director.
WHAT WE'RE BUILDING
We start with a strong concept (right now mostly affordable co-ops), build a near-final-quality trailer in Unity before any prototype exists, seed it on TikTok, and watch the wishlists come in. Our publisher funds production for the concepts that take off, and we grow those into full games. The target is scaling up to 2 great trailers a month and 3-6 productions running in parallel. Because each trailer has to look like the finished game, the designer is central from day one.
OUR MISSION
We want to bring emotionally rich, meaningful games to the market - the kind people remember for a long time.
WHERE WE ARE
Early stage, pre-investment, growing fast. The trailer team is already 15 people, and the company is 20+, spread across Germany, Portugal, France, Poland, and Armenia. A partner studio just joined to help with trailers, and we're wrapping our first one now.

THE ROLE
A Game Designer/Director who owns concepts end to end - from trailer through full production to release - usually carrying up to 2-3 at different stages.
- You'll fit if you're ambitious, want to build something big from the ground floor, and enjoy holding several games in your head at once.
- This can start part-time.
- Fully remote.
- Ideally, you can jump in immediately or the next week.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong game design skills - systems design and player experience.
- Hands-on level design: spaces, encounters, and pacing that serve the gameplay.
- Practical development experience with Unity and multidisciplinary teams.
- Creative direction: holding a clear design vision and giving/taking constructive feedback.
- Strong written and spoken English, comfortable working remotely with a distributed team.
- Experience in indie or small-team environments.
Browse our curated collection of remote jobs across all categories and industries, featuring positions from top companies worldwide.
- Nice to have: basic scripting or technical design.
THE HONEST PART
This is an early equity play. For the first couple of months, the team works for equity plus a virtual salary paid out later as a bonus; no cash salary yet. In exchange, you get a real stake in every game we ship, on terms we won't be able to offer once we have funded positions. The earlier you join, the bigger your share.
SO WHEN DOES A REAL SALARY KICK IN?
A ~2-5 month horizon, on two tracks we're pushing at once:
- Publisher funding once one of your projects passes validation (2 months +).
- A pre-seed raise after our first successful announcement - we're prepped and already have three interested investors (3 months +).
GET IN TOUCH
Interested? I'd love to connect and walk you through our pitch and first five projects.
Have a great day!
Artem
