Job Description
Some engineering roles keep the lights on.
This one helps shape how a world-class investment business operates.
We're partnering with a globally recognised, technology award-winning hedge fund that is continuing to invest heavily in its engineering capabilities. As the business grows, they're looking to hire an exceptional Platform Engineer to join their Core Platforms team – a group of highly capable engineers responsible for delivering the technology that underpins the firm's global operations.
This is not a traditional infrastructure role.
You'll sit at the intersection of technology and business, partnering directly with stakeholders across Trading, Research, Risk, Finance, Operations and Business Development. You'll be trusted to understand their challenges, identify opportunities for improvement, and design solutions that have a tangible impact on how the firm performs every day.
The technology you build won't disappear into a backlog or be buried under layers of process. You'll see the results of your work immediately, often working directly with the people who benefit from it.
The Environment
The firm operates a sophisticated global technology estate spanning London, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore and Abu Dhabi, with a mix of Windows and Linux platforms supporting hundreds of highly demanding users.
The engineering culture is built around ownership, curiosity and continuous improvement.
If you're the type of person who sees a manual process and immediately starts thinking about how to automate it, you'll fit right in.
If you've spent weekends experimenting with new technologies, building side projects, testing AI tools, or finding better ways to solve problems simply because you enjoy it, you'll fit right in.
And if you genuinely care about building elegant, scalable solutions rather than applying temporary fixes, you'll fit right in.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll take ownership of technical challenges from start to finish.
That means:
- Working closely with business stakeholders to understand requirements and pain points
- Designing and implementing scalable solutions that improve productivity and efficiency
- Driving automation initiatives across infrastructure and end-user technology
- Leveraging Infrastructure as Code principles to create repeatable, reliable platforms
- Identifying opportunities to simplify, optimise and modernise existing systems
- Acting as a trusted technology partner to teams across the business
- Using AI and emerging technologies to solve real business problems

This is a role for someone who enjoys variety, autonomy and responsibility.
No tickets being thrown over a wall.
No endless layers of approval.
No being restricted to a narrow technical silo.
Technology Matters Here
Technology is not a support function at this firm. It's a strategic advantage.
The business is consistently recognised as one of the UK's leading adopters of AI, ranking amongst the top organisations using artificial intelligence to create measurable business outcomes.
Engineering teams actively embrace both commercial and internally developed AI solutions to enhance productivity, accelerate delivery and solve increasingly complex challenges.
They're looking for people who are excited by that.
People who enjoy learning.
People who stay curious.
People who see emerging technology as an opportunity rather than a threat.
What We're Looking For
You'll likely bring:
- 5+ years of relevant commercial experience
- Strong Windows and/or Linux engineering and troubleshooting expertise
- A proven track record of delivering meaningful automation using PowerShell, Python or similar technologies
- Experience applying Infrastructure as Code principles in production environments
- Exposure to cloud, virtualisation and security technologies
- Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical engineering approach
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage directly with senior stakeholders

No Financial Services Experience?
That's absolutely fine.
The firm hires exceptional engineers first and finance professionals second.
If you're intelligent, curious, technically strong and excited by the opportunity to learn a new domain, you'll be considered on equal footing.
The Hiring Process
This is an organisation that sets an exceptionally high bar.
Technical capability, depth of knowledge and problem-solving ability are thoroughly assessed through a series of technical conversations, engineering scenarios and practical challenges.
They're looking for outstanding engineers, and they're prepared to invest heavily to secure them.
