Compensation: $100,000 - $110,000 Base Salary

Company Overview:

Tiello has partnered with a well-established AISC Certified Structural Steel Fabricator seeking an Assistant Plant Manager to support operations at their headquarters facility in Lynchburg, Virginia. This position is designed to serve as the second-in-command to the Plant Manager and offers a clear succession path into plant leadership. The selected candidate will work closely with the current Plant Manager to oversee daily fabrication operations, production scheduling, manpower planning, quality, safety, and workflow management while developing a thorough understanding of the company's processes and systems.

Position Summary

The Assistant Plant Manager will help oversee day-to-day fabrication operations while supporting production efficiency, manpower utilization, quality control, and schedule execution. This individual will work directly with shop supervision and production teams to ensure projects are fabricated safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong structural steel fabrication background, experience managing shop personnel, a working knowledge of AWS D1.1 fabrication requirements, and the ability to navigate production schedules and fabrication management software.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing daily operations of the structural steel fabrication facility
• Support production scheduling and manpower planning to ensure fabrication deadlines are achieved
• Coordinate with detailing, project management, purchasing, and shop personnel to maintain workflow efficiency
• Monitor fabrication progress and identify potential bottlenecks before they impact production schedules
• Ensure compliance with company safety standards and AWS D1.1 fabrication requirements
• Support quality control initiatives and fabrication best practices
• Lead and mentor shop supervisors and production personnel

• Review workload forecasts and assist with resource allocation
• Utilize Tekla EPM (PowerFab) and company scheduling tools to monitor production performance
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts focused on productivity, quality, and operational efficiency
• Provide leadership support and serve as a key resource for the Plant Manager

Qualifications

• 5+ years of leadership experience within a structural steel fabrication environment
• Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication operations and shop workflow
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding and fabrication standards
• Experience managing shop personnel, production schedules, and fabrication resources
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and production scheduling tools
• Experience with Tekla EPM (PowerFab) strongly preferred
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced fabrication environment
