As the Senior Engineering Manager, you will own the strategy, execution, and technical health of the backend systems powering these high-scale consumer products. You will define the long-term backend roadmap, lead a high-impact engineering team, and ensure architectural excellence, scalability, reliability, and security across our core services and APIs.

Success is measured by system stability, engineering velocity, and your ability to elevate performance and quality across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Organizational & People Leadership:

• High-Leverage Coaching: Manage and mentor 8–12 backend engineers, providing impactful 1:1s, growth plans, and performance guidance. Elevate
• engineers’ capabilities in system design, distributed systems, and operational excellence.
• Hiring & Bar-Raising: Own the hiring strategy for backend engineering. Recruit, interview, and onboard exceptional engineers while continuously raisingthe technical and cultural bar.
• Team Health & Culture: Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, operational rigor, craftsmanship, and psychological safety. Ensure clear communication and alignment.

Strategy & Execution:

• Technical Vision & Roadmap: Define and lead the long-term technical strategy for Edison Mail and SpendHound. Drive foundational initiatives in API gateway evolution, distributed data sync, and large-scale data processing.
• Innovation & Technology Evangelism: Promote a culture of curiosity, experimentation, and technical debate. Evaluate emerging technologies, build POCs, and drive impactful adoption across teams.
• Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner with Product, Design, Data, and Executive Leadership to translate business needs into a clear and actionable engineering roadmap. Make thoughtful trade-offs between velocity, reliability, and technical debt.
• Delivery & Developer Excellence: Establish and enforce engineering best practices—including documentation quality, code reviews, design reviews, test automation, CI/CD, and observability standards—to ensure predictable, secure, and high-quality releases.

Technical Expertise & Scalability:

• System Design & Architecture: Demonstrate strong HLD (system design) and LLD (object-oriented design) skills. Drive major architectural decisions for systems serving millions of users, such as email sync engines and classification pipelines.
• Engineering Quality Stewardship: Apply and teach SOLID principles, 12-Factor App methodology, and modern design patterns. Lead large-scale refactoring initiatives and improve coding best practices across the organization.

• Scalability & Infrastructure: Ensure backend architectures are horizontally scalable, highly available (99.99%+), fault-tolerant, and cost-efficient. Guide evolution of distributed systems, microservices, and data pipelines.
• Observability & Operational Excellence: Champion DevOps and SRE best practices—robust monitoring, alerting, on-call processes, and high-quality
• RCA/RCF postmortems. Define and leverage critical metrics (latency, availability, MTTR, MTTD, SLOs). Maintain a strong emphasis on P95/P99 latency.
• Serve as the escalation point for major incidents.
• Security & Compliance: Ensure backend systems handling PII data (email content, transactions) adhere to best-in-class security standards e.g. OAuth, Encryption etc.

As the Senior Engineering Manager, You Will be Responsible for:

• ERP Data Management: You'll be the one implementing connectors to fetch and store the ERP data. It's like building a bridge to a treasure trove of information. And not just that, you've got to ensure this data has high availability. So, whether it's the crack of dawn or the dead of night, the ERP data should be accessible without a hitch. It's your kingdom, and you're responsible for all related improvements. Make sure the data is stored effi ciently and securely, and is always ready for action.
• Business and Technology/Engineering Liaison: Understand the business requirements inside out. Jump right into discussions with the team and bring your A-game to design technical solutions. You'll be the one who bridges the gap between business needs and technical implementation.
• Backend API Mastery: Customers' requirements are constantly evolving, and that's where you come in. You'll be implementing or upgrading backend APIs to fi t these new demands like a custom-made glove. Your work will be the driving force behind our ability to keep up with the market.
• System Maintenance and Architecture Champion: Maintain our existing services like a pro. Dive into iterative upgrades, deploy improvements, and take charge of service governance. Your work will be the glue that holds our services together and keeps them evolving. Build new foundational components that empower the team with strong, reliable core support.
• Global Team Player: Work hand-in-glove with our US, Singapore, India and China teams. Be fl exible with work hours as the data world never sleeps, and we need you to be on top of your game, always
• This is a fully-remote opportunity based in India. Standard work hours are from 8 am to 5 pm IST.

You Are Likely To Succeed If you have or you are:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or related majors, 12+ yrs overall experience.
• Solid computer foundation and programming skills, familiar with common data structures and algorithms.
• Excellent in one of the following languages: Python/Golang/Java (Python is the most preferred)
• Proficiency with messaging platforms (Kafka, RMQ, SQS) and relational/NoSQL datastores (MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB, Cassandra, ScyllaDB, HBase, Redis, Aerospike, etc.).
• Experience in architecture and developing large-scale distributed systems.
• Familiarity with microservice architecture, API gateway patterns, and service observability (logging, tracing, metrics).

• Distributed Systems: Proficiency with messaging platforms (Kafka, RMQ, SQS) and relational/NoSQL datastores (MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB, Cassandra, ScyllaDB, HBase, Redis, Aerospike, etc.).
• Scale Expertise: Proven track record building and operating systems with strict latency and reliability requirements in 24/7 environments, including:
