Job Description
Vocator has been retained to lead the search for a Senior Backend Software Engineer, Financial Platforms and Confidential Systems.
Compensation: $220,000 โ $260,000 base salary, with flexibility on base compensation for the right candidate, plus up to 25% annual performance bonus. No equity.
Workplace Type: Remote anywhere in the USA
Work Auth requirement: US Citizen or Green Card only, H-1B transfer is not possible at this stage
This is a highly technical backend role for someone who can ramp quickly, take ownership in a lean engineering environment, and contribute across production-grade Rust and Kotlin backend services. The role is expected to be roughly split between Rust and Kotlin development, so strong experience in both languages is highly relevant.
Youโll work on backend services, APIs, distributed systems, secure infrastructure, and partner integrations supporting a global financial platform.
What youโll work on:
- Designing, building, and maintaining production-grade backend services in Rust and Kotlin
- Working across large-scale distributed systems, APIs, data flows, and product integrations
- Integrating internal and external services using JSON-RPC and gRPC
- Contributing to secure computing systems, including Intel SGX / Trusted Execution Environment technologies or equivalent secure hardware environments
- Working on cryptographically sensitive and privacy-preserving systems
- Improving observability, monitoring, alerting, and system health using tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, and Logit
- Collaborating asynchronously across a distributed remote team using clear technical design docs, Notion, and Slack
- Using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or LLM-based assistants for testing, debugging, and rapid prototyping

What weโre looking for:
- Senior-level backend engineering experience in production environments
- Deep backend proficiency in Rust and Kotlin
- Experience building reliable, high-availability distributed systems
- Hands-on experience with secure hardware / TEE technologies such as Intel SGX is highly valuable
- Experience with cryptography, privacy-preserving system design, or cryptographically sensitive code is a strong differentiator
- Strong API and systems integration experience, ideally with JSON-RPC and gRPC
- Comfort operating independently, writing clear technical documentation, and communicating well in an async remote environment
- Curiosity and practical adoption of AI-assisted development workflows
