Job Description

We are looking for a Senior (Lead) Data Scientist to join our Helsinki team. Depending on experience, this role may be filled at a Senior or a Lead Data Scientist level.

About the role

At Sievo, data is everything. We have visibility into more than 2% of global GDP in spend — a breadth and depth of real-world procurement data that very few datasets anywhere can match. Making sense of a dataset at that scale, reliably and safely, is fundamentally a data science problem, and that is why this role is essential to how we create value.

As a Senior (Lead) Data Scientist, you will own the analytical and scientific methods that turn that data into trustworthy, productized insight. You will develop statistically robust benchmarks, indexes, models, and insights from large, complex datasets, and prove that those outputs create measurable customer value. Where outputs are anonymized or aggregated, that is a property of what you ship — not a limit on the data you get to work with.

This role sits at the intersection of data science, product development, and procurement domain expertise. You'll work closely with Product Managers, Data Engineers, AI/ML teams, and customer-facing teams to turn analytical prototypes into scalable product capabilities.

At the Lead level, you will also help build and ramp up Sievo's data science capability across the company. This is not a from-zero effort — there is an emerging practice to mature: you'll set scientific direction and standards, mentor technical contributors, extend data science influence across teams, and represent Sievo's analytical credibility in customer and executive discussions.

What you'll do

  • Develop statistical and machine-learning methods that turn large, complex datasets into trustworthy insight — benchmarks, indexes, supplier and opportunity indicators, predictive models, and executive-facing analytics
  • Define success metrics and experimentation plans for new data products, and measure whether customers actually use and act on the resulting insights
  • Design and validate methodologies for the outputs you ship — representativeness, outlier handling, confidence levels, segmentation logic, and minimum data thresholds
  • Move beyond simple averages — modelling prices and indicators as a function of category, geography, supplier, material, timing, or demand where it adds value
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis on large procurement datasets to identify patterns, opportunities, limitations, and new product ideas
  • Assess and mitigate data quality, bias, privacy, anonymity, and competition-law-related risks
  • Document methodologies, assumptions, limitations, validation results, and interpretation guidance for internal and customer-facing use
  • Support AI and insight-generation features with statistically valid, reliable data and context, including confidence indicators and clear interpretation guidance
  • At the Lead level, help build and ramp up Sievo's data science capability beyond a single team — setting scientific direction and reusable modelling standards, mentoring data scientists, data engineers, and analysts, and influencing direction across teams

What we're looking for

  • A track record of turning ambiguous business questions into clear analytical problem definitions, and of designing metrics and validation approaches that connect analytical outputs to business outcomes
  • Comfort working with imperfect, heterogeneous, real-world enterprise data
  • Solid command of statistics — distributions, sampling, bias, variance, confidence, correlation vs. causation, outlier treatment, and uncertainty
  • Strong Python skills for analysis, modelling, visualization, and prototyping, and strong SQL skills for working with complex analytical datasets
  • Experience across the ML lifecycle: problem formulation, dataset preparation, feature design, model selection, validation, metric definition, and interpretation
  • A product mindset — interest in turning analytical prototypes into repeatable, scalable product capabilities rather than one-off analysis
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex methods and limitations to Product, Engineering, Sales, CSM, and leadership, and to influence technical direction across teams
  • For a Lead-level role: a demonstrated ability to drive the data science discipline across an organization — raising standards, growing capability, and influencing direction beyond a single team

Bonus points for

  • Experience with procurement, spend analytics, supplier data, finance analytics, pricing, or supply-chain data
  • Experience with ML methods such as forecasting, clustering, anomaly detection, recommendation systems, classification, or optimization
  • Experience with Azure, Synapse, notebooks, Azure ML, or similar cloud analytics environments
  • Experience with privacy-preserving analytics, anonymized datasets, aggregation thresholds, or sensitive commercial data
  • Experience designing A/B tests, pilots, product experiments, or customer impact measurement
  • Understanding of LLM / RAG / AI assistant use cases and how structured data can safely power AI-generated insights

Our salary range for a Senior Data Scientist is between 6200-7800 EUR, and we are open to discuss higher compensation for a Lead level role.

This role is ideal for an experienced data scientist who wants to own methodology end to end — defining what the data can reliably tell us, proving its impact, and shaping differentiated data products, rather than running one-off analyses.

What it's like working at Sievo

  • Work with modern data, ML, and AI technologies on real production systems that power customer-facing features
  • Grow your expertise across applied data science, procurement analytics, and product development, with room to deepen and broaden over time
  • One of the coolest offices in the heart of Helsinki — or if you prefer, a flexible hybrid working model. We also provide all essential tools to work remotely
  • Freedom and responsibility. We are looking for people who yearn for this freedom, can make the most out of it, and are willing to take on the responsibility
  • International team members coming from over 40 nationalities
  • Awesome perks including extensive healthcare, phone plan, home internet connection, equity program, referral bonus, and many more!

We offer a relocation support package for exceptional candidates.
