This role is a key contributor to the evolution of a modern, scalable backend platform that powers critical financial services for small businesses. You will design and build high-performance services that replace legacy systems and enable a more modular, cloud-native architecture. Working in a distributed engineering environment, you will collaborate closely with product, data, and engineering teams to deliver robust APIs, integrations, and platform capabilities. The role combines hands-on backend development with architectural thinking and a strong focus on reliability, scalability, and performance. Your work will directly impact core business workflows, improving operational efficiency and enabling faster innovation across the organization. Accountabilities
You will be responsible for building and evolving backend services that support platform modernization and critical business operations. This includes designing scalable APIs, improving system reliability, and contributing to the replacement of legacy infrastructure. You will also play a key role in cross-functional collaboration, helping shape engineering standards and ensuring high-quality delivery across the platform.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services in Python supporting core platform functionality
- Develop secure, well-structured REST APIs and integrations with internal systems and external partners
- Contribute to the modernization of legacy systems, including migration toward cloud-native and data-driven architectures
- Improve platform reliability through observability, performance optimization, and engineering best practices
- Collaborate with product, data, and engineering teams to define technical requirements and delivery approaches
- Participate in architectural discussions and influence technical direction for backend systems
- Ensure high standards of code quality, testing, CI/CD, and production readiness
You bring deep backend engineering experience and a strong ability to operate in complex, evolving technical environments. You are comfortable owning systems end-to-end, making pragmatic architectural decisions, and collaborating across distributed teams. You combine strong Python expertise with experience in scalable, cloud-based architectures.

- 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years building backend systems and APIs in Python
- Strong experience with scalable system design in data-intensive or high-availability environments
- Hands-on experience with platform modernization or migration projects
- Proficiency in REST API design, authentication, versioning, and error handling best practices
- Experience with frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask
- Solid background in cloud environments (preferably Azure) and DevOps practices (CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps)
- Familiarity with Databricks, Spark, and modern data platform ecosystems
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases and event-driven architectures
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in distributed teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Nice to have: experience with .NET/C#, Terraform/Bicep, Vue.js, or AI-enabled application patterns
