Job Description

FACULTY POSITION

emlyon business school invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Supply Chain and Operations Management, open at the Associate Professor level, to begin in January 2027.

We are looking for a generalist profile in Operations and Supply Chain Management — someone with genuine research ambition and a strong appetite for teaching engagement at Master's level.

We are looking to recruit a candidate with:

  • A strong academic research profile, capable of publishing in top-tier journals and contributing to the school’s international research visibility;
  • A strong pedagogical experience, in experiential education, and real-world project-based teaching.

This position is part of emlyon’s broader strategic ambition to combine academic excellence with impactful, hands-on learning that is deeply connected to the business world and societal challenges.

YOUR ROLE AT EMLYON

The selected candidate will join the Department (*) of ODAI and the QUANT Research Centre (https://aim.em-lyon.com/quant/), contributing to:

  • Cutting-edge research in their area of expertise;
  • The development and delivery of innovative, action-based learning experiences, closely tied to the professional ecosystem (corporates, startups, NGOs, etc.).

The successful candidate will contribute to core modules of our Master's program in Supply Chain & Operations Management, with a primary focus on operational excellence and/or strategic procurement and sustainable sourcing. Most courses will be taught on the Lyon campus, with possible sessions on other emlyon campuses in France or internationally.

The candidate will teach in a program covering the full supply chain spectrum — from flow design to resilient execution — including topics such as:

  • Lean operations, continuous improvement, Six Sigma
  • Strategic sourcing, sustainable procurement, ESG in supply chains
  • Supply chain planning, network design, and performance management

Teaching is delivered in English to an international, multicultural student cohort.

CANDIDATE PROFILES

We are open to diverse academic trajectories, and encourage applications from candidates who correspond to the following:

  • Research part
  • Ph.D. in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Proven publication record (or high potential) in top-tier journals (e.g., FT list) and internationally ranked journals (ABS 3+, CNRS 2+ or equivalent), and an active pipeline
  • Ability to supervise doctoral students and collaborate on funded research projects

We seek a candidate with an active and ambitious research agenda. Research alignment may include — but is not limited to — the following areas:

  • Operations management and process improvement
  • Sustainable procurement and responsible sourcing
  • Supply chain resilience and risk management
  • Circular economy and sustainable logistics
  • Supply chain digitalisation and analytics
  • Teaching part
  • Teaching experience at Master's level (courses, seminars, case facilitation, or equivalent)
  • Interest in pedagogical innovation and contribution to program development

Additional Requirements

  • Desire to work in a collaborative, international environment
  • Industry exposure or strong practitioner networks in supply chain, procurement, or operations
  • Familiarity with ESG and sustainability frameworks applied to operations contexts
  • Capacity for institutional service (program management, curriculum design, external representation)
  • Fluency in English required; knowledge of French is a plus but not mandatory
  • Willingness to relocate to Lyon or surrounding area (relocation support provided)

The candidate will be expected to contribute to and will be regularly evaluated based on three areas of activities: (1) research performance, (2) teaching and student supervision, and (3) institutional service (e.g., administration, service in committees, representation of the school in the media and events).

We strongly encourage people of all backgrounds (gender, ethnic background, nationality) to apply.

The selected candidate is expected to be based in Lyon or nearby area. emlyon has set-up a relocation policy to support the moving process.

Salary and conditions are competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
