Job Description

About Fourstroke

We are Fourstroke, an Amsterdam-based quantitative trading firm operating across global digital asset markets. We develop and operate systematic market-making strategies, combining research, engineering, and machine learning into a single integrated platform.

Since our founding in 2021, we have built a successful, fully automated trading operation active across hundreds of markets and multiple exchanges. We operate with a small, highly technical team (7p) and continue to push the performance and sophistication of our systems further. To support this expansion, we are looking for a talented software engineer to join us.

Your opportunity

You’ll work on performance-critical systems operating in real time across global crypto markets, solving hard engineering problems in an environment where speed, reliability, and execution quality matter.

In this role, you’ll help design, build, and optimize low-latency systems spanning trading infrastructure, exchange connectivity, large-scale data/ML infrastructure, and internal tooling — with direct impact on our daily trading performance.

Responsibilities

  • Build new ultra-low latency trading infrastructure components in Rust.
  • Improve existing and implement new trading algorithms.
  • Identify and implement performance optimizations across the core trading stack.
  • Build and optimize exchange connectors (FIX, WebSocket, REST).
  • Optimize network connectivity across exchanges and low-latency providers.
  • Develop internal tooling, ML infrastructure, and data pipelines (Databricks).
  • Contribute to deployment, monitoring, and day-to-day trading operations.

Profile

  • 2+ years of professional software engineering experience or exceptional personal/open-source projects.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, low-level networking, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with Rust, or strong motivation to work with Rust professionally.
  • Comfortable taking ownership from idea to production within a lean, fast-paced engineering team.
  • Willingness to work across the stack when needed, including Typescript-based internal tooling and portfolio management systems.
  • BSc / MSc in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or another STEM field.
  • Strong curiosity for AI-native software engineering workflows and tooling (e.g. Claude Code, Codex).
  • Enjoy working in small, highly technical teams.
  • Curiosity and genuine enthusiasm for trading and digital assets.

What we offer

  • A collaborative, high-energy work environment.
  • The chance to become a key contributor at an early-stage trading firm with strong momentum.
  • Competitive base salary + generous performance-based bonus scheme.
  • Flexible hybrid setup (up to 2 days remote per week).
  • Trendy Amsterdam office with our own espresso bar and free lunch.
  • 28 paid holidays + 1st Class train subscription for your commute.
  • Visa sponsorship (if needed).
  • Top-tier gear: MacBook Pro (14/16") + headset of your choice.
  • Regular team events (incl. yearly ski trip), office drinks, and attendance at leading industry conferences.

How to apply

  • Write a brief paragraph about yourself and why you are enthusiastic about this role.
  • Send it, along with an up-to-date resume, to julien@techrise.nl (our recruitment agency).
