Job Description

WebCreek is looking for a Senior Application Developer for a database-driven application development role based in Houston, TX. This position is ideal for a highly skilled, self-driven developer who can work independently, understand complex systems quickly, and deliver high-quality application solutions in a fast-paced environment.

This role has a strong focus on database-driven application development, complex business logic, and services that provide data from backend systems to front-end applications. The ideal candidate has experience working with database-heavy systems where calculations, business rules, and data flows are central to the application.

This role is best suited for developers who build, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve applications and services that support complex business operations. While database experience is important, this is not a traditional ETL, data pipeline, big data, cloud infrastructure, or AI/ML engineering role.

What You'll Do:

  • Design, develop, maintain, and enhance applications across different platforms, environments, and database systems.
  • Analyze existing codebases, business logic, database structures, and data flows to understand how current systems operate.
  • Extend, improve, or modernize existing applications and services with limited supervision.
  • Work with database-heavy systems where complex calculations, business rules, and application logic may reside within the database layer.
  • Develop and support Python-based services or other service layers that provide data from backend systems to application front ends.
  • Troubleshoot complex application, database, and logic-related issues, identify root causes, and implement practical solutions.
  • Research unfamiliar technologies, frameworks, legacy code patterns, and business processes independently.
  • Rapidly prototype, test, and deliver working solutions in a high-velocity environment with shifting priorities.
  • Use AI development tools such as Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar tools to support development, while validating output and maintaining production-quality standards.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into reliable application solutions.

What You Bring:

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with application development in database-driven environments.
  • Experience with one or more database technologies such as Oracle, SQL Server, DB2 iSeries, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or NoSQL databases.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and implement complex business logic within application and database-driven systems.
  • Python and/or services development experience.
  • Experience developing, maintaining, or supporting applications and services, not only moving data between systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across diverse application stacks, legacy systems, and technical environments.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to independently assess a situation, identify the root cause, and implement a fix or feature without waiting for step-by-step direction.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality solutions quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to research unfamiliar tools, frameworks, and code patterns and produce working solutions through self-directed learning.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical decisions, tradeoffs, and implementation approaches clearly.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools in a thoughtful and effective way, beyond basic autocomplete.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves):

  • Experience working with Oracle, SQL Server, DB2 iSeries, PostgreSQL, or other enterprise database systems.
  • Experience working in financial systems, supply chain, energy, oil and gas, enterprise operations, or other business-critical application environments.
  • Experience interpreting business requirements and translating them into application logic, service logic, or database-driven functionality.
  • Experience supporting legacy application modernization or enhancing existing systems.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working in fast-paced environments where priorities may shift and independent ownership is required.

What You'll Gain:

  • Full-time opportunity with WebCreek in a business-critical application development environment.
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Opportunity to work on complex application systems with meaningful business logic and database-driven functionality.
  • Collaborative, international work environment.
  • In-house IT training and certifications through WebCreek University.
  • Opportunity to work with modern development practices and AI-assisted development tools.
