Job Description
Open English is seeking a hands-on CTO / Platform Architect to lead the greenfield buildout of a unified, AI-native learning platform. This person will own the architecture, consolidate multiple legacy platforms into one scalable ecosystem, and build a small, high-caliber engineering team.
This is a highly technical leadership role for someone who can operate as both a builder and architect. The ideal candidate should be comfortable writing foundational code, making key architecture decisions, integrating enterprise systems, hiring senior engineers, and partnering directly with executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and own the greenfield development for a unified AI-native platform that consolidates Open English Adult, Open English Junior, and Open Mundo.
- Architect the enterprise integration layer across Salesforce, NetSuite, Zuora, Yuno, and other business-critical systems.
- Build and guide foundational platform services, including APIs, authentication frameworks, integration layers, shared services, and core microservices.
- Define AI-assisted engineering workflows, including automated code generation, continuous review loops, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-a-code, DevOps, and automated testing.
- Establish a lean, high-autonomy engineering culture where senior engineers own definition, execution, testing, and delivery with minimal traditional PM or QA support.
- Hire, onboard, and sequence a small team of specialized senior engineers.
- Serve as the technical partner to executive leadership, translating business goals into architecture decisions, timelines, technical risks, and execution plans.
- Support the development of both customer-facing product capabilities and internal tools that improve operational efficiency.
Must-Have Experience
- Strong hands-on architecture and engineering background, ideally in a CTO, Technical Architect, VP Engineering, Head of Engineering, Founding Engineer, or senior technical leadership capacity.
- Experience designing and shipping scalable software in lean engineering environments.
- Strong cloud architecture experience, preferably AWS.
- Experience with scalable platform architecture, APIs, authentication systems, integration layers, shared services, or core microservices.
- Experience integrating enterprise systems such as CRM, other ERP such as billing, subscription management, payments, or similar business-critical platforms.
- Practical experience with AI integration and AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, Copilot, Cloud Code, or similar platforms.
- Experience defining engineering workflows across DevOps, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, automated testing, and release quality.
- Ability to hire, lead, and sequence senior engineering teams.
- Comfort working in fast-moving, ambiguous, startup-like environments.
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and executive stakeholders.
- Spanish proficiency required, ideally conversational or intermediate level.
- Willingness to be co-located in Latin America.

Preferred Experience
- Experience with EdTech, LMS platforms, online learning, consumer education, or digital learning products.

- Experience with LLM orchestration, model routing, AI-native platforms, AI tutors, personalization engines, or automated development systems.
- Experience building both customer-facing products and internal tools.
- Experience working in founder-led, startup, or high-growth environments.
- Experience with streaming, gamification, kids’ products, adult learning products, or AI-enabled learning experiences.
- GCP or Azure experience may be considered if the candidate has strong cloud architecture fundamentals.

Location
- Latin America co-location is required.
- Priority locations include Bogotá, Colombia and Buenos Aires, Argentina. MedellÃn, Colombia may also be considered.
- U.S.-based candidates may be considered only if they are willing to relocate to Latin America.
Compensation Range
- Latin America target range: approximately $170,000 to $220,000 base salary, depending on experience, location, and overall fit.
- U.S. benchmark range: approximately $250,000 to $400,000 base salary, plus potential bonus and equity. U.S.-based candidates must be open to relocation to Latin America.
- Final compensation will depend on candidate location, experience level, technical depth, leadership background, and total package structure.
