We are looking for a detail-oriented Junior Database Administrator (MySQL) to join our remote technical team. In this role, you will apply your SQL and database management skills directly to the fast-evolving field of Text-to-SQL and relational database AI model training.

Role Overview

This is a 100% remote technical role, but it is not a standard database maintenance or ops-only job. You will be working directly on the front lines of AI model training, evaluation, and benchmark creation.

As a Junior MySQL DBA at HiredBuddy, your core responsibility will be generating complex SQL queries, evaluating AI-generated MySQL statements, designing mock database schemas, and validating query execution performance to train Large Language Models (LLMs) on database administration and querying.

Key Responsibilities

• Create "Golden" SQL Queries & Schemas: Design realistic MySQL database schemas (DDL) and write complex, optimized SQL queries (DML/DQL) to serve as ground-truth dataset references for Text-to-SQL AI models.
• Evaluate & Benchmark AI Queries: Review, execute, and score AI-generated MySQL code for syntax accuracy, execution efficiency, index usage, and proper join logic.
• Identify & Correct AI Errors: Spot edge cases, syntax bugs, Cartesian products, subquery inefficiencies, or hallucinated table/column names in AI outputs, rewrite the queries, and document why the correction was needed.

• Simulate Real-World DBA Tasks: Draft realistic administrative scenarios including index optimization, user privilege management, table backup/restore commands, and schema migrations for AI prompt evaluation.
• Maintain Dataset Integrity: Validate mock datasets (CSV/JSON/SQL dumps) to ensure clean execution environments for testing model outputs against live MySQL instances.

What We’re Looking For

• MySQL Core Proficiency: Strong hands-on knowledge of MySQL (8.0+), relational database concepts, indexing strategies, constraints, transaction isolation, and JOIN operations.
• SQL Query Crafting: Ability to write and optimize multi-table queries, subqueries, aggregation (GROUP BY, window functions), and basic stored procedures.
• DBA Fundamentals: Basic understanding of MySQL administration tasks like schema design, user management, backup/restore (mysqldump), and query execution plan analysis (EXPLAIN).
• Analytical & Critical Thinking: Ability to quickly analyze query execution plans, catch subtle logic flaws, and explain complex technical errors in clear, plain written English.
• Remote Work Readiness: Self-motivated, disciplined, and comfortable working asynchronously using communication tools like Slack, GitHub, and ticketing platforms.

Nice-to-Haves

• Basic scripting knowledge in Python or Node.js to automate schema seeding and query testing workflows.
• Familiarity with other relational databases (PostgreSQL) or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with database GUI clients (DBeaver, MySQL Workbench, DataGrip).
• Previous exposure or interest in LLMs, Text-to-SQL evaluation, or data annotation platforms.
