Senior WordPress Engineer – Fully Remote (US)

Salary: Up to $6,000 USD per month

YourCode is partnering with a global digital engineering consultancy to hire an experienced Senior WordPress Engineer to join their fully remote engineering team.
This is an opportunity for an experienced WordPress Developer who enjoys building enterprise-grade digital platforms using modern WordPress architecture, custom development and scalable engineering practices.
You'll work across the full WordPress ecosystem, building custom themes, plugins, Gutenberg blocks, REST API integrations and high-performance web applications used by global organisations.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design, build and maintain custom WordPress applications
- Develop bespoke WordPress themes, plugins and Gutenberg blocks
- Build scalable backend solutions using PHP, MySQL and REST APIs
- Develop modern front-end functionality using React, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5 and SCSS
- Optimise performance through caching, CDN integration, database tuning and server optimisation
- Improve WordPress security, scalability and reliability
- Review code, mentor engineers and contribute to engineering best practices
- Troubleshoot complex application, infrastructure and API issues
- Collaborate with Product, Design, DevOps and Engineering teams in an Agile environment
- Contribute to technical documentation and continuous improvement initiatives

What We're Looking For
- 7+ years' commercial experience as a WordPress Engineer, WordPress Developer or PHP Developer
- Expert-level WordPress development experience including:
- Custom Themes
- Custom Plugins
- Gutenberg Blocks
- WP-CLI
- WP Query
- Hooks & Filters
- REST APIs
- Strong PHP 7/8 development skills including Object-Oriented Programming
- Experience with Composer and modern PHP development
- Strong React, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3 and SCSS experience
- Experience optimising MySQL databases and WordPress performance
- Knowledge of CDN technologies, caching strategies and application optimisation
- Strong understanding of secure coding practices and WordPress security
- Experience using Git, CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment workflows
