Job Description
Middleweight Graphic Designer
Quarterly · Cape Town, South Africa · Remote · Permanent
Before you apply
We get hundreds of applications and most do not make it past the first ten seconds. Three things will decide whether yours does.
You must be based in South Africa. If you are not, your application will be rejected automatically. This is not flexible. Our clients are in the UK, so we need our South African team working in a timezone that overlaps with theirs, and in sync with the rest of the team here.
If that is you, keep reading.
Your portfolio is everything. Include a clear link to your online portfolio or attach a PDF. No portfolio, no review, no exceptions. We are not reading a CV full of certifications. We are looking at your work.
You need at least three years of professional experience. Agency, freelance or internal all count, as long as you have spent real time owning brands rather than dipping in and out of them.
The role
Quarterly is an embedded design studio. We place designers inside our clients' teams, working in their tools, joining their calls, and delivering work every single day. Not an agency. Not freelancers. An extension of their team.
You will be assigned to four clients and work across their brands daily, covering branding, social creative, presentations, web design, print, ads and packaging. Think of it as being the internal designer for four companies at once. You will know their brands properly, you will speak to them directly, and you will be the person they rely on.

You will manage your own workload, keep clients updated without being chased, and deliver work that makes them look good. It moves quickly, it is varied, and you will be backed by creative leads who review work before it goes out.
What you will do
Create on brand, considered design work across a wide range of disciplines, including logo and brand identity, digital ads, social content, marketing collateral, presentation design, print, packaging and web assets.
Work within a dedicated design team of four to six designers, sharing ideas, proofing each other's work and raising the standard together.
Run several projects at once without dropping the quality on any of them, and collaborate with designers, creative leads and directors across the UK and South Africa.
Every brief is different and every day moves. If you like variety and ownership, you will do well here.
What we are looking for
- Based in South Africa with the legal right to work here
- At least three years of professional experience as a graphic designer
- A strong portfolio that shows range, craft and attention to detail
- Confident in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. All three, not one or two. PowerPoint, Figma and After Effects are a bonus
- Excellent written and spoken English, since you will be talking to UK clients daily
- Comfortable juggling several projects at once
- Proactive and genuinely invested in your clients rather than waiting to be told what to do
- High standards, because good enough is not good enough

Pay and practicalities
Salary: R350,000 to R450,000 per year, depending on experience.
Leave: 24 days annual leave, plus UK bank holidays.
Contract: This is a permanent role. As we do not have a registered entity in South Africa, payment is made by invoice. By applying, you confirm you are comfortable handling your own tax obligations under South African law.
