Python Developer

We’re seeking temporary support from a Senior Python Developer with strong DevOps expertise to streamline our infrastructure and deliver a microservice for skill-based people search. We work in an agile environment (Kanban or sprints), and the role is fully remote. Key Responsibilities • Optimize our frontend deployment pipeline in Azure DevOps, aligned to our constraints and requirements. • Design, prototype, and implement a “telephone book”-style, high-performance internal search service. The solution should be in Python or use Python as a wrapper around a suitable prebuilt search engine. • Write clear documentation and implement unit and integration tests to ensure reliability and maintainability. • Collaborate closely with internal data scientists, software engineers, and project managers; participate in regular checkpoints and code reviews. Project Scope • Task 1: Consolidate Azure DevOps deployment pipelines for several frontend applications to deploy to a single server rather than separate resources. • Task 2: Implement an MVP “people finder” microservice using Apache Solr with a thin Python wrapper (or comparable tooling). • Task 3: Depending on remaining time, contribute to additional Python or Azure DevOps-related tasks. Required qualifications • 5+ years of professional experience as a Python developer. • Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and Azure DevOps (CI/CD). • Proven track record delivering enterprise-grade software. • Experience working in agile teams (Kanban or Scrum). • Fluency in English; German proficiency highly desirable. • Nice to have: o Familiarity with frontend build pipelines (Vite/React). o Experience with IIS. o Experience with search technologies (e.g., Solr, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch) and hybrid / semantic search.
