Interim Human Resources Generalist (Remote | EST/CT Time Zones)

We are partnering with a growing, complex organization that is seeking an experienced Interim Human Resources Generalist to support a period of significant operational change. This role is fully remote, works an EST schedule, and requires candidates to reside in the EST or CT time zones.
This is a highly process-driven, execution-focused HR role. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in structured environments, is comfortable navigating complex HR processes at scale, and brings deep hands-on HR experience from large, multi-state organizations.
Role Overview
This HR Generalist will play a key role in stabilizing and enhancing HR operations during a time of transformation, including the transition from inbox-based workflows to a formal ticketing system and the reclassification of all employees.
This role is not responsible for employee relations or compliance investigations.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and manage highly procedural HR processes in a fast-changing environment
- Administer and support complex onboarding and offboarding processes (30+ step workflows)
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for leave-related processes, ensuring accuracy and consistency
- Work extensively within HR systems and Microsoft O365 tools to manage, track, and document HR activities
- Partner effectively with HR leadership and management, escalating questions appropriately—especially in union-adjacent situations
- Support large-scale HR operational initiatives, including Company-wide employee reclassification, Process standardization and documentation and Transitioning HR work from inbox-based intake to a ticketing system.
Must-Have Experience
- Hands-on experience administering FMLA, ADA and Leaves of Absence (LOA).
- Strong HRIS proficiency (Paylocity experience is a strong plus)
- Experience supporting a large, multi-state workforce
- 1,600+ U.S. employees
- Operations across 40+ states
- Background in large, complex organizations with mature, multi-step HR processes
- Comfort working in environments with detailed procedures and high volume
Technology Environment
- Paylocity (HRIS) – experience preferred, training available
- Microsoft O365 Suite (Outlook, Teams, OneNote, SharePoint, etc.) – used heavily day-to-day
