Taste is building the taste layer for AI, teaching models what great feels like across subjective domains such as style, quality, and emotion. We work with creative experts and AI labs to develop the data, methods, and evaluations that move AI beyond accuracy and toward real resonance.
As Taste scales its platform and research capabilities, we are hiring a Member of Technical Staff with a strong back-end focus. This is a high-impact engineering role at an early-stage company, ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, moves fast, and wants to shape foundational systems that power AI-native products from the ground up.
Your Role
You will design and build the core backend and data systems that power Taste’s product and research platform. Working closely with the founding team, researchers, and creative experts, you will own critical infrastructure spanning data ingestion, AI workflows, and scalable serving systems. This is not a narrow role. You will operate across systems, data, and AI flows, with direct influence on product direction and technical architecture.
What You’ll Do
▪️ Build and scale backend systems for data ingestion, processing, and retrieval
▪️ Set up inference and API serving infrastructure capable of handling millions of requests
▪️ Develop systems for embeddings, indexing, and evaluation of AI-generated and human-generated data
▪️ Design and maintain AI agent execution frameworks and supporting tooling
▪️ Create scalable crawling and scraping pipelines for web and visual data
▪️ Partner closely with founders and researchers to scope and ship AI-driven features
What You Bring
▪️ 2+ years of experience in backend or full-stack software engineering
▪️ Strong experience with Python and modern backend systems
▪️ Familiarity with LLM-powered systems, embeddings, and vector indexes
▪️ Experience with data pipelines, web scraping, and large-scale processing
▪️ Solid foundation in cloud infrastructure, automation, and systems design
▪️ Comfort working in early-stage environments with high ownership and ambiguity

▪️ $180,000 – $300,000 base salary
