VP of Software Engineering

Overview

Our client is seeking a VP of Software Engineering to lead and scale the software development organization, driving the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and innovative products. This role will oversee engineering teams, define technical strategy, and ensure alignment with business goals. The VP of Software Engineering will partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and Executive Leadership to drive technology excellence, operational efficiency, and team growth across all engineering initiatives.

Reporting to: CTO, Chief Product Officer, or CEO

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and vision for the software engineering organization, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technology roadmap.
• Manage multiple engineering teams, including frontend, backend, mobile, DevOps, QA, and platform teams, fostering collaboration and high performance.
• Drive architecture, design, and development of scalable, secure, and maintainable software systems.
• Oversee the full software development lifecycle, ensuring best practices in agile development, CI/CD, and release management.
• Establish engineering KPIs, quality metrics, and operational standards to measure team performance and delivery efficiency.
• Collaborate with Product Management, UX/UI, and Data teams to define product requirements, prioritize initiatives, and ensure timely delivery.
• Champion technical excellence, code quality, testing, and continuous improvement across teams.
• Mentor and develop engineering leaders and managers, building a strong leadership pipeline.
• Drive innovation through evaluation and adoption of new technologies, frameworks, and tools.
• Partner with Security, Compliance, and IT teams to ensure systems meet regulatory and security requirements.

Operating Context & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Works closely with Product, Data, Design, and Customer Success teams to deliver high-impact software solutions.
• Partners with Executive Leadership on strategic planning, technology investments, and roadmap execution.
• Engages with external stakeholders, vendors, and partners for technical evaluation, integrations, and enterprise support.
• Operates in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing distributed teams and remote collaboration.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Proven experience leading large engineering teams and complex software initiatives.
• Strong technical expertise across multiple technology stacks, architectures, and platforms.
• Experience in software development lifecycle management, agile methodologies, and DevOps practices.
• Demonstrated ability to scale engineering organizations in fast-growing or high-growth environments.
• Excellent leadership, mentorship, and team development skills.
• Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in SaaS, cloud-native, or B2B software products.
• Familiarity with AI/ML, data platforms, or advanced technology integrations.
• Background in enterprise software delivery, multi-cloud infrastructure, or distributed systems.
• Experience managing globally distributed or remote engineering teams.
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance and security standards (SOC2, ISO, GDPR).
