About the role
The position is at a tech services company. We are looking for a skilled HR professional with 3–5 years of experience to lead People Operations within the Canadian region while working closely with our U.S.-based HR and Legal partners to support cross-border workforce needs.
Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Support:
- Act as the primary regional contact for employee questions related to company policies, procedures, and programs.
- Manage and resolve complex, sensitive, and specialized employee matters in partnership with legal and leadership teams.
- Lead and participate in disciplinary actions, terminations, and investigations, ensuring processes are fair, consistent, and compliant.
- Handle routine HR tasks in sensitive situations, including accommodation requests and investigations into potential misconduct.
- Partner with managers and senior leaders to deliver practical, risk-aware HR guidance that balances employee experience with business objectives.
Benefits & Compensation:
- Administer benefits programs, leave policies, and compensation plans for the region.
- Coordinate with payroll providers to ensure accurate and timely employee pay, responding to payroll-related inquiries, particularly for Canada-based employees.
- Serve as the main point of contact for regional benefits and compensation questions.
Compliance & Policy Management:
- Ensure adherence to federal, provincial, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Regularly review, update, and maintain company policies and practices to ensure compliance and alignment with best practices.
Learning & Development:
- Support and collaborate on learning and development initiatives that encourage employee growth and strengthen team capabilities.
- Own and continuously enhance onboarding and offboarding processes, collecting feedback to improve efficiency and the employee experience.
HR Trends & Best Practices:
- Stay current on industry trends, regulatory updates, and emerging technologies in HR, talent management, and employment law.
- Introduce forward-thinking HR practices that improve the effectiveness and impact of the HR function.
- Support HR process and policy updates driven by company growth, acquisitions, and changing compliance requirements.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of HR experience.
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification strongly preferred.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Solid knowledge of Canadian employment laws and regulations.
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, Payroll, and IT teams in compliance-focused environments.
- Ability to analyze HR data, identify trends, and leverage systems to improve processes and the employee experience.
- Experience supporting U.S.-based employees or working in a cross-border HR environment is a strong advantage.
