Job Description
Senior Test Engineer – EGSE / Embedded Systems (Space & Defense)
Phoenix / Gilbert, AZ
$120–150K + Relocation | 9/80 Schedule (Every Other Friday Off)
We’re seeking a hands-on Senior Test Engineer to design and build Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) used to validate space- and defense-grade avionics and power electronics. This role sits at the intersection of test hardware, embedded software, and real-time systems and is ideal for engineers who like working close to the hardware.
What You’ll Do
- Architect and develop EGSE test systems from requirements through qualification, including:
- COTS instrumentation (PXI, DAQ, power supplies, signal generators)
- Custom test enclosures and cabling
- Develop embedded test software in C interacting directly with SBCs running VxWorks (RTOS)
- Create LabVIEW VIs for instrument control, telemetry monitoring, and operator UIs
- Build automated test frameworks using Python or PERL to coordinate LabVIEW and VxWorks execution
- Support testing of:
- Command & Data Handling (C&DH) boards
- Analog and digital I/O
- Electrical Power System (EPS) boards (power switching, battery charging, solar array interfaces)
- FPGA-based subsystems (integration/debug level)
- Debug issues across hardware, firmware, and software boundaries using lab tools (JTAG, scopes, logic analyzers)
- Author test plans, procedures, schematics, and qualification documentation
- Collaborate closely with systems, firmware, FPGA, and hardware design teams
- Mentor junior engineers on test system design and embedded best practices
