Job Description

Job Title: PSAP Test Engineer

Job Location: San Ramon, CA, Open to relocation candidates

Job Duration: 1-2 years (renewed annually, ongoing need due to continuous vendor updates)

Pay Rate: $45.00/hr to $46.00/hr

Onsite — Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 3:00 PM (Must be onsite to verify tones, 2-way audio, etc.)

Interview Times: 45 min Virtual Interview

Interview Process: Manager interview + technical discussion

Job Description:

  • Support and certify mission-critical 911 call handling systems within the Emergency Services IP Network (ESINet), ensuring reliable call routing, clear audio, and accurate location delivery across PSAP environments.
  • This role is a frontline technical safeguard for public safety operations—validating new software releases, network integrations, and vendor solutions to ensure systems perform correctly in real-world emergency call scenarios and meet operational/regulatory requirements.

Day to Day:

  • Execute scheduled test plans for 911 vendors and platforms; validate releases, patches, and PSAP integrations
  • Perform regression + functional testing across wireline, wireless, and accessibility devices
  • Troubleshoot end-to-end 911 call scenarios (SIP signaling, routing failures, audio issues, location delivery)
  • Work directly with vendors on deep-dive troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and proof-of-concept testing
  • Spend time in lab/PSAP environments (not always at a desk) supporting testing and issue resolution
  • Document defects, test results, and recommendations to support certification/compliance sign-off

Must Haves:

  • Hands-on PSAP / 911 technical experience (supporting call handling systems, PSAP tech, 911 field engineering, etc.)
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot actual calls (not signal validation / drive testing)
  • Experience working with vendors: ticketing, escalation, validation of fixes, and PoC-style work
  • Strong understanding of 911 call flows and how routing + location delivery should behave
  • Working knowledge of SIP / VoIP concepts and troubleshooting in a telecom environment
  • Able to work onsite Monday-Friday and move between desk and lab/PSAP locations as needed
  • Hard no: RF/RAN/RF validation profiles are not a fit (green-light/red-light signal checks ≠ deep call troubleshooting, vendor PoCs, or ESINet/PSAP call handling).

Soft Skills:

  • Calm, methodical problem-solver in high-impact/life-safety environments
  • Clear communicator who can translate issues to vendors and internal teams
  • Strong documentation habits and attention to detail
  • Proactive and flexible (comfortable being away from computer while supporting PSAP/lab work)

Plusses:

  • Titles like 911 Field Engineer, PSAP IT Technician, Public Safety/911 Systems Technician
  • Direct experience inside PSAPs supporting call handling platforms, routing, or location delivery
  • Prior work supporting vendor certifications, proof-of-concepts, or multi-vendor integrations
  • Exposure to ESINet environments or public safety telecom/network testing
  • Candidate is a self-relocator (ok if relocating at own expense)

The Company offers the following benefits for this position, subject to applicable eligibility requirements: medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, short-term disability insurance, paid parking/public transportation, paid time off, paid sick and safe time, hours of paid vacation time, weeks of paid parental leave, and paid holidays annually - as applicable.
