As a Backend Engineering Team Manager, you will lead a high-performing team of engineers, ensuring smooth project execution while fostering growth, collaboration, and innovation. You will play a key role in delivering backend solutions that power industry-leading products, working closely with Product and Design teams to execute the roadmap effectively. This role combines technical expertise with people management, mentorship, and team building, providing the opportunity to shape both engineering practices and career growth for team members. Accountabilities
- Lead and mentor a team of backend engineers, promoting professional development and a culture of continuous learning
- Align team execution with broader engineering strategy in collaboration with senior leadership
- Support engineers in making technical decisions and ensure delivery commitments are met effectively
- Establish project timelines, monitor progress, and resolve blockers to maintain smooth execution
- Collaborate with Product and Design teams to deliver features iteratively and with customer focus
- Manage recruitment, onboarding, and team growth to build a diverse and capable engineering team
- Foster knowledge sharing, documentation, and open communication in a remote-first environment
- Implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, reliability, and code quality

- 7+ years of experience in advanced software development, including 2+ years in engineering leadership
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- Strong backend development background (e.g., Ruby, Python) and solid understanding of databases, caching systems, and background processing
- Familiarity with software engineering fundamentals, CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, and code quality best practices
- Knowledge of scalability, reliability, observability, and security principles
- Proven ability to guide teams, resolve blockers, and ensure delivery commitments are achieved
- Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience leading remote or distributed engineering teams is a plus
