Job Description


Overview

We are seeking an experienced AWS Administrator to design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure supporting the collection and dissemination of patient safety data for federal healthcare programs. This role focuses on hands-on AWS engineering using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), operational support, and continuous improvement of monitoring and reliability practices.

You'll join a 21-person engineering team, report to the Lead Development Engineer, and contribute to stable, well-documented cloud environments in a fully remote setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain AWS infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code best practices
  • Support day-to-day AWS operational needs, including troubleshooting, optimization, and cost management
  • Improve and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability tooling to increase system reliability
  • Create and maintain clear technical documentation for infrastructure, processes, and standards
  • Collaborate with engineering, security, and operations teams across a distributed workforce
  • Contribute ideas and improvements while following architectural guidance from senior engineers
  • Participate in DevOps/DevSecOps activities (CI/CD, security controls, automation) as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Must be located in the United States
  • 4+ years of hands-on AWS experience in production environments
  • Strong experience with core AWS services: EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, CloudFront, CloudWatch
  • Proven experience using Terraform to manage AWS infrastructure
  • Solid understanding of cloud networking, security principles, and high-availability architectures
  • Ability to troubleshoot infrastructure issues and support live environments
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
  • Strong written communication skills, particularly for technical documentation
  • Willingness to complete federal security training

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS certifications (any level)
  • Experience with DevOps or DevSecOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, security scanning, policy-as-code)
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar)
  • Understanding of SRE concepts such as SLIs, SLOs, and incident response
