Senior Microsoft Windows Engineer (Wintel)

At Paragon, we design and deliver secure, resilient, and high-performing infrastructure services that underpin critical business operations across multiple regions. We’re now looking for a Senior Microsoft Windows Engineer (Wintel) to play a pivotal role in shaping, owning, and continuously improving our Infrastructure Hosting estate.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in complex enterprise environments and wants real ownership, influence, and scope.

The Role

Reporting to the Windows Team Leader – Infrastructure Hosting, you’ll act as the technical authority and escalation point for our Wintel Server Infrastructure across the UK, Ireland, Luxembourg, and India.

You’ll own the full lifecycle of Windows-based platforms—from architecture and design through to optimisation, resilience, and decommissioning—ensuring services are secure, compliant, highly available, and fit for purpose. Alongside deep technical expertise, this role requires strong leadership, sound judgement, and the confidence to influence infrastructure strategy at scale.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Technical Leadership & Service Ownership

• Act as the senior technical authority for Wintel infrastructure across the estate
• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of Windows platforms
• Provide 3rd line and senior escalation support for complex issues
• Lead design, release, performance, and capacity management activities
• Ensure CMDB and service management data accurately reflects live infrastructure

Infrastructure Operations & Resilience

• Ensure platforms are secure, resilient, monitored, and compliant
• Own BCP and Disaster Recovery platforms, including testing and continual improvement
• Proactively identify and remediate performance, availability, and capacity risks
• Oversee patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management

Compliance, Security & Governance

• Maintain compliance with security, regulatory, and accreditation standards
• Support encryption solutions including Thales KeySecure and CipherTrust

• Ensure infrastructure aligns with audit, risk, and governance requirements

Platform & Technology Management

• Design and optimise VMware (VxRail HCI) and supporting Hyper-V environments
• Deliver Windows platforms across on-prem, physical, and public cloud (Azure, AWS, OCI)
• Own and manage the Citrix estate for performance and user experience
• Maintain oversight of x86 and storage platforms including Dell VxRail, HPE ProLiant, Cisco UCS
• Support enterprise monitoring solutions (e.g. Zabbix or equivalent)
• Manage enterprise storage systems and SAN environments

Incident, Change & Stakeholder Management

• Lead incident, problem, and change management in line with ITIL
• Act as a senior escalation point during major incidents
• Collaborate with internal teams, business stakeholders, and third-party vendors
• Provide reporting, risk insight, and service updates to senior IT leadership
• Participate in on-call support, out-of-hours work, and occasional travel

What You’ll Bring

Essential Experience & Skills

• Extensive enterprise experience with Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
• Expert knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP
• Advanced VMware (VxRail HCI) experience with supporting Hyper-V
• Strong understanding of storage technologies and enterprise infrastructure

• Proven experience in multi-site, multi-region environments
• Strong monitoring and alerting experience (Zabbix or equivalent)
• High proficiency in PowerShell automation
• Solid understanding of ITIL and PRINCE2
• Excellent troubleshooting skills for business-critical systems
• Strong communication skills and the ability to lead and mentor others

Desirable

• Azure and hybrid cloud architecture experience
• Microsoft 365 hybrid environment management
• 5+ years in a senior Wintel or infrastructure engineering role
• Experience supporting global teams across time zones
• Microsoft certifications (MCSA, MCSE, Azure Administrator)
• Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary teams during incidents or projects

This is a remote role with some UK travel on an ad-hoc basis.
