Job Description

About Us

Barrel partners with CPG brands to elevate their online presence and drive growth through e-commerce, website optimization, email, SEO, and content strategy. As a globally distributed team, we’re united by a mission to help clients succeed through thoughtful, customer-centric solutions. Our goal is to create experiences that resonate, add value, and build lasting connections with their communities.

The Role

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading Shopify ecommerce projects from inception to launch, ensuring seamless execution across design, development, and integration phases. While this is not a hands-on development role, you must have a strong technical understanding of Shopify, third-party integrations, and custom development approaches to guide project execution effectively. You will proactively identify gaps, risks, and opportunities, collaborating with engineers, designers, QA, and stakeholders to keep projects on track. Your ability to manage scope, budget, and timelines while maintaining profitability will be key to your success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and document clear project plans, timelines, and milestones for Shopify builds and integrations.
  • Work closely with software engineers and QA to establish an execution strategy, ensuring the right technical solutions are chosen.
  • Ensure all project requirements—including features, integrations, and theme customizations—are clearly defined and documented.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of effort estimation, resource allocation, and technical feasibility for each project.
  • Proactively manage scope, ensuring that out-of-scope requests are either reined in or processed via formal change orders.
  • Act as the primary liaison between clients, developers, designers, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide clear, proactive communication regarding project status, priorities, next steps, and risks.
  • Ensure detailed and organized documentation in project management tools, tickets, and client communications.
  • Surface and escalate risks early to prevent delays or budget overruns.
  • Monitor project progress and course-correct as needed to maintain schedules and budgets.
  • Ensure a defect-free launch process, coordinating testing, bug tracking, and resolution efforts.
  • Maintain a balance between process and flexibility, adjusting workflows to fit project complexities and constraints.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of the Shopify ecosystem, including platform features, apps, and integrations, with the ability to translate this knowledge into actionable strategies for clients
  • Analytical mindset with the intellectual curiosity to seek context and insight behind numbers, coupled with strong business acumen
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple clients and projects, balancing competing priorities effectively
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented
  • Level-headed and positive under pressure
  • Proficiency in project management tools such as Google Suite, Slack, Basecamp, JIRA, Harvest and Forecast
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple clients and projects, balancing competing priorities effectively

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in an eCommerce environment, ideally as a Project Manager, eCommerce Manager, or similar
  • Agency experience a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Marketing or similar field

Compensation

Salary range for this fully remote position is $60k to $90k, depending on experience and location.
