Job Description

Who We Are

Southern Made is a fully remote technical project management agency. Our clients are agencies and brands who need to deliver complex digital projects like websites, mobile apps, augmented reality experiences, or promotional platforms - but shouldn't have to be the bearer of the stress and uncertainty of figuring out how to manage the technical side on their own. We take that weight off their shoulders. We lead the designers, developers, and technical teams so our clients can focus on what they do best while knowing their projects are in good hands. We deliver over 450 projects a year, and our clients keep coming back because we care deeply, move with urgency, and consistently deliver.

We were built on a simple idea: technologists and creatives deserve an agency that supports them, protects their time, and helps them do their best work. That idea turned into a company that has delivered thousands of projects since 2015, and we are still just getting started.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager who can bridge the gap between clients and technical teams with real understanding, not just process. This is someone who speaks developer, thinks in systems, and leads with clarity. You will own 50 to 70+ projects annually, manage complexity across multiple clients simultaneously, and mentor other PMs on the team. You are the person the client trusts, the developer respects, and the team leans on when things get complicated.

This is not a clipboard role. You will need to understand technology well enough to ask the right questions, catch scope issues before they become budget problems, and translate complex technical concepts into language clients can act on. You do not need to write code, but you need to understand how things are built, why decisions matter, and where projects go sideways if someone is not paying attention.

You should also be someone who is naturally curious about emerging tools and technologies. We are a team that tests new approaches, learns from them, and shares those insights. If you are the kind of person who tries things before you are told to, you will fit right in.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead Projects from Start to Finish. Own the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple concurrent projects. Keep things on time, on budget, and aligned with what the client actually needs. You manage the chaos so the team can focus on building.
  • Be the Client’s Trusted Partner. You are the primary point of contact. Communicate clearly, manage expectations honestly, and build the kind of trust that turns one project into a long-term relationship. Treat clients like family, which means having the hard conversations too.
  • Translate Between Worlds. Turn client goals into clear technical direction and translate developer constraints into language clients understand. Write detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, and project briefs that set everyone up for success.
  • Protect and Lead Your Teams. Coordinate designers, developers, and contractors. Shield them from unnecessary noise, give them what they need to do great work, and hold the line on scope and timelines. You are their advocate and their leader.
  • Spot Problems Before They Happen. Identify risks early, build mitigation plans, and communicate proactively. The best project managers do not just react to fires. They prevent them.
  • Mentor Other PMs. Share what you know. Help junior and mid-level PMs level up their skills, improve their processes, and grow into stronger leaders. Teaching is part of the job here.
  • Push the Craft Forward. Continuously improve how we work. Test new tools, refine processes, explore emerging technologies, and bring insights back to the team. We do not stand still, and neither should you.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of project management experience in a digital agency, software development firm, or similar environment, with a proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong technical fluency. You understand APIs, databases, and modern development practices well enough to have real conversations with engineers and make informed decisions.
  • Deep understanding of digital project lifecycles, from scoping and design through development, QA, and deployment.
  • Exceptional communication skills. You can run a client call, facilitate a complex stakeholder meeting, and write a clear project brief without breaking a sweat.
  • A natural curiosity about new tools and technologies. You are the kind of person who tests things, learns from them, and shares what you find with the team.
  • Experience writing detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical briefs that developers actually want to read.
  • Strong organizational instincts. You manage your time, your projects, and your teams with discipline and intention.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships rooted in trust, honesty, and consistent delivery.

Bonus Points

  • Familiarity with tools like Airtable, Basecamp, Jira, and Slack.
  • Experience working with distributed or contractor-augmented development teams.

How We Measure Success

We do not just count deliverables. We look at how you show up, how you lead, and how you make the people around you better. That said, here is what great looks like in this role:

  • Efficiently manage and deliver 50 to 70+ projects annually.
  • Maintain a 90%+ on-time delivery rate with 85%+ budget adherence across your portfolio.
  • Communicate proactively. Clients and teammates should never have to chase you for updates.
  • Mentor at least one other PM and contribute to team knowledge sharing each quarter.
  • Continuously improve your craft, whether that is testing new tools, refining a process, or sharing a lesson learned.

What We Offer

  • Autonomy. You will have real ownership over your work, your schedule, and how you approach problems. We hire leaders, not task-takers.
  • Growth. Access to ongoing professional development, structured mentorship, and a clear growth path from Senior PM to Practice Lead.
  • Fully Remote. Work from anywhere in the U.S. We have been remote practically since the beginning, not as an afterthought.
  • Culture. A team that values boldness, accountability, and caring deeply. We support each other, tackle hard challenges, and deliver on our promises.
  • Benefits. 401k, profit-sharing, technology upgrade fund, unlimited PTO, and healthcare and wellness reimbursements.

Our Values

Everything we do at Southern Made comes back to three principles:

  • Be Bold. Explore new opportunities with courage and curiosity. We do not play it safe when playing it safe means standing still.
  • Be Accountable. Say what you will do, then do what you say. It is that simple and that hard.
  • Care Deeply. About the clients, about the work, and about each other. We pick up the phone. We have the hard conversation. We protect our teams.

If this sounds like the kind of place where you do your best work, we want to hear from you.
