Role: SQL DBA
Duration: 2-Month Contract
Location: 100% Remote
Overview
We are seeking a short-term SQL DBA with strong expertise in legacy and modern SQL Server environments. This role will focus on ensuring the reliability, performance, security, and availability of data platforms, while playing a key role in migrating SQL applications from on-premises environments to the cloud.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, maintain, and optimize SQL Server environments (including legacy SQL Server 2000)
- Lead migration of SQL applications from on-premises to Azure cloud
- Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies
- Troubleshoot and resolve critical SQL Server issues efficiently
- Implement and manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
- Automate DBA tasks using PowerShell scripting
- Manage large-scale databases (TB+ environments)
- Configure and administer SQL Servers in virtual environments
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support offshore DBA teams

Required Skills & Experience
- 5–10+ years of hands-on SQL Server experience (design, implementation, maintenance)
- Strong experience with SQL Server 2000 and newer versions
- 5+ years working with Azure SQL (PaaS and SaaS)
- Proven experience with database migration to Azure
- Deep understanding of SQL Server performance tuning, indexing, and monitoring
- Strong PowerShell scripting skills (including custom module development)
- Experience managing large databases (terabyte scale)
- Solid knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery strategies
- Experience leading or mentoring junior DBAs (offshore team experience preferred)
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with clients directly
