Overview
TechSoup is seeking a Mapping & Community Resilience Intern to support a project that bridges the gap between community-led insights and technical solutions. Working within a participatory design framework, you will help nonprofit organizations translate real-world challenges—such as disaster response, food security, and housing—into actionable technology interventions.

- Co-Design & Facilitation: Participate in participatory co-design workshops. You will assist with pre-workshop research, facilitate small group work, and capture community insights through detailed note-taking.
- GIS & Prototyping: Research potential GIS and data visualization solutions to address identified community needs. You will have the opportunity to explore and develop prototypes using Esri’s latest mapping tools and other interoperable data standards.
- Community Knowledge Stewardship: Lead the development of the "Community Knowledge Package"—a comprehensive set of materials (research, design questions, and roadmaps) that ensures the community retains ownership of the project’s results.
- Demonstrations & Outreach: Design and host virtual demos to showcase potential technical solutions to nonprofit partners. You will also help design a "Gallery" to engage a broader community of technologists and social impact leaders.
- Executive Support & Briefing: Prepare briefing materials for TechSoup executives and support their presentations and meetings during key events.
- Team Collaboration: Actively participate in team meetings, contribute to our internal Mapping Community of Practice, and document your findings for TechSoup staff to help scale our impact.
This internship includes significant opportunities for professional exposure and high-level engagement:
- Workshop Travel: Potential travel to a design workshop to work directly with community stakeholders.
- Esri User Conference: You will travel with TechSoup team members to attend the Esri User Conference in July. In addition to networking with leaders in the field, you will be expected to represent the project and provide direct support to TechSoup leadership during their sessions and stakeholder meetings.

- Tech-Social Fluency: A strong interest in how technology can address real-world challenges and a commitment to collaborative, human-centered solutions.
- GIS Knowledge: A general understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data visualization principles. You do not need to be an expert, but you should be comfortable researching and testing new tools.
- Professional Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to summarize complex discussions for both community partners and executive leadership.
- Self-Direction: Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining a highly collaborative approach with a global team.
The hourly range for this internship is $18 an hour-$22 an hour plus benefits. TechSoup determines ranges based on role, level, and location. The range reflects the minimum and maximum targets for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Individual pay is determined by location and other factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, business needs, and market demands.
