Compensation: $190,000 – $230,000 + Competitive Equity
Remote – U.S. OR Canada
About the Role:
We're a profitable, fast-scaling AI platform that's already processed over half a billion dollars in online orders and 1 in 5 Americans have used one of our customer-facing websites. We give local restaurants the same AI-powered marketing engine the big chains have: automated SEO, online ordering, loyalty, and email/SMS campaigns, all run by experts. Tens of millions in revenue, $120M raised, and we're growing faster than ever.
Our engineering team is small and intentional, about 60 engineers and we're looking for a Senior/Staff Backend Engineer to own the guest lifecycle and loyalty platform. This means building the high-volume, multi-channel marketing infrastructure that converts first-time guests into regulars.

What You'll Do
- Own the email, SMS, and push notification infrastructure that powers high-volume, multi-channel campaigns for thousands of restaurant customers
- Build and operate guest journey automation and loyalty systems integration end-to-end, with a focus on deliverability, performance, and reliability at scale
- Architect and maintain campaign orchestration pipelines using modern tooling including Temporal workflows and Kafka
- Collaborate directly with customers and C-suite stakeholders — this team communicates at every level of the org
- Drive architectural decisions, contribute to roadmapping, and mentor across the team
- Thrive in ambiguity: this is not a ticket-driven environment — you define the work as much as you execute it

You'll Thrive Here If You
- Have 5+ years of experience building and operating backend systems in production at scale — and can speak to the operational complexity, not just the code
- Have hyper-growth, consumer-facing experience: you've worked on systems that handle real user volume across mobile or web
- Have worked at a high-growth startup or top-tier tech company and have the trajectory to prove it — promotions, broad scope, high ownership
- Bring TypeScript and Node.js proficiency and are comfortable in a modern async/event-driven backend stack
- Communicate exceptionally well — with engineers, with product, and with non-technical stakeholders including customers
- Are energized by ambiguity and ownership, not slowed down by it
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience specifically in e-commerce, loyalty programs, or marketing automation systems
- Familiarity with Temporal workflows, Kafka, or similar infrastructure for distributed job orchestration
- Background at a company that's navigated the scaling inflection point (think: Series B to Series D)
- CS degree from a top program
