Job Description
The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for leading, strategizing, and overseeing complex projects and initiatives related to the UI Health Care Epic Community Connect at Iowa Program. This position requires the application of advanced project management methodologies to ensure that the Epic Community Connect Program meets its strategic goals and objectives while upholding the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing comprehensive project plans, managing resource allocation across multiple projects, leading critical project meetings with executive stakeholders, ensuring alignment of the project portfolio with organizational strategy, addressing complex constraints, and implementing risk mitigation strategies with minimal supervision.
The leadership skills required for this position include the ability to build and maintain relationships with executive-level stakeholders, such as senior leadership, department directors, hospital administration, medical and clinical staff leadership, division executives, and technical leadership. The Senior Project Manager will analyze complex project requirements, develop innovative implementation strategies, provide strategic guidance throughout the project management life cycle, and serve as a senior change agent for the organization while working effectively alongside project leaders and executive sponsors.
This role will lead projects in the UI Health Care Epic Community Connect at Iowa Program, which implements and maintains the Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) system at affiliated healthcare facilities, including nine Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) across Iowa. The Senior Project Manager will also drive other strategic UI Health Care initiatives, promoting innovation and operational excellence across the organization.
- Partner with executive leadership to execute UI Health Care's strategic values and financial goals.
- Facilitate collaboration between the Epic Community Connect at Iowa Program leadership and other internal and external stakeholders to successfully implement complex strategic initiatives and projects.
- Establish and maintain executive-level awareness, commitment, and accountability for the Epic Community Connect at Iowa Program and project outcomes across the organization through strategic deliverables and comprehensive performance metrics.
- Develop strategic methodologies to gather, analyze, and report on progress against action plans and expected benefits realization.
Position Responsibilities
- Plans, estimates, staffs, organizes, and manages multiple projects.
- Identifies common risks and addresses them with contingency plans and options.
- Holds regular and ad-hoc project reviews and status meetings with project team, sponsors, and clients.
- Champions and mentors project organization methodology, tools, and techniques.
- Employs appropriate techniques for maintaining team enthusiasm, energy, and focus.
- Communicates both within the team and to stakeholders.
- Establishes and assures effective teamwork, communications, and reporting at the project level and at the management and stakeholder level for the status of projects.
- Develops continuous improvement and feedback processes to act upon lessons learned to improve the efficiency of the project management methodology.
- Gives continuing feedback, recognizes achievement, and recommends improvement.
- Mentor other staff in the field of project management.
- Controls strategic and mission-critical projects involving multiple parties.
- Indirectly manages projects providing project management best practices, training, and mentoring to project stakeholders and team members.
- Creates and maintains project lists of issues and potential problems.
- Captures, records, aggregates, and reports project status across a group.
- Cooperates with project team members to produce status report updates.
- Conducts and reports on project budget variance analysis.
- Adopts the principles of Earned Value Analysis across multiple IT projects.
- Builds consensus among managerial, technical, and business stakeholders.
- Organizes projects that span disciplines, geographic areas, and business cultures.
- Plans for allocation of project resources in line with unit goals, strategic and business objectives.
- Coordinates team efforts on multiple concurrent projects.
- Consults on project planning, estimating, scheduling of high-risk, high-impact projects.
- Verifies and confirms project funding and budget assignments and allocations.
- Organizes projects and ensures that they are executed successfully to plan.
- Identifies risks and vulnerabilities and creates contingency plans.
- Identifies reporting and control requirements and reflects them in all project plans.
- Develops and maintains a positive, collaborative relationship with project stakeholder Imposes conformance on project plans, reports, and reviews.

Education Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Business, Management, Public Health, Health Administration, or a related health industry discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
- PMI Project Management Professional Certification, is required.
- Project Management experience, typically 3-5 years implementing and managing multiple medium to large-scale programs/projects
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with a strong focus on customer service utilizing established PMO Program/Project Management methodology, processes, procedures, tools, and techniques to improve quality measures and metrics.
- Ability to lead process improvement activities to make enhancement recommendations and implement workflow and business process changes.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with all levels of management and project team members.
- Demonstrated strong project management, organizational and facilitation skills.
- Experience leading teams and people to successfully implement change utilizing a positive, can-do attitude to inspire others.
- Proficient in Project Management tools such as MS Teams, MS Word, MS Excel, MS SharePoint, MS Visio, and MS PowerPoint.
- Experience with the concept of the PMBOK (Project Management Book of Knowledge) and applying project management principles, methodology & processes, tools & techniques to managing projects.
- Ability to simultaneously lead multiple small to large-scale projects.
- Ability to travel to customer sites and to the University of Iowa campus and facilities as needed to support various projects and work activities.

- Preference will be given to candidates with educational and certification credentials combined with Project Management experience in a health industry.
- A Master's degree in Business Administration, Business or Management, Public Health, Health Administration, or a related Health Industry discipline.
- Working knowledge with Epic implementation and support in an ambulatory or hospital setting
