Director, Platform Development

2. About the Opportunity:

The Director, Platform Development leads the design and development of a modern data platform that unifies enterprise data into a secure, real-time environment. This role is critical to building foundational platform capabilities and guiding architectural direction while managing a growing team. The position blends hands-on technical leadership with increasing people and project management responsibilities, ensuring the platform supports scalable data ingestion, governance, and analytics needs. Reporting to the VP of Data Platforms, this role serves as a technical and operational anchor within the team.

3. Responsibilities:

• Lead design and implementation of backend services and data platform components using Node.js and TypeScript

• Develop and maintain platform architecture, design patterns, and engineering standards

• Manage intake requests balancing immediate delivery with platform health

• Collaborate with governance, analytics, and consumers to support scalable data ingestion, lakehouse architectures, ELT pipelines, and metadata governance

• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for reliable and observable deployments

• Establish best practices in object-oriented design, test-driven development, and secure development lifecycle

• Hire, mentor, and manage engineering staff as the team expands

• Perform code and design reviews, providing technical guidance

• Coordinate across legacy and modern platforms in a matrixed environment

• Transition gradually from individual contributor to leadership and execution management

4. Requirements:

• Strong foundation in software engineering fundamentals including object-oriented programming, design patterns, and API/service design

• Solid understanding of data engineering concepts such as lakehouse architectures, ELT pipelines, and data governance

• Experience building modular or microservice-based systems

• Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience (formal management preferred but not required)

• Commitment to code quality, testing, and automation

• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices

• Ability to operate with high ownership in a fast-paced environment

• Effective communication skills bridging technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have:

• Experience with ML platforms or services like Databricks or AWS Bedrock

• Familiarity with analytics and BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI

• Experience in media, streaming, or large-scale enterprise environments

• Background in modernizing or integrating legacy systems into cloud-native platforms

Additional Requirements:

• Fully remote work from a non-company worksite, typically the employee’s residence

5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:

• Salary range: $170,000 - $210,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible)
