Role Description
The Local Palate Magazine is seeking a Graphic Designer who brings strong design instincts, a genuine eye for photography, and a real passion for food culture. This role reports directly to the Art Director and works closely with the editorial, marketing, sales, and digital teams to ensure visual brand continuity across all platforms. This is a fully remote position open to candidates in the Eastern or Central time zones. Our office is based out of Charleston, SC.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Art Director to plan, design, and execute all aspects of design across print and digital platforms through final production
- Design revisions, create print-ready layouts, copy-edit, and prepare files for final press production
- Assist the Art Director with photo research, in-house photography, image selection, and coordination of outsourced photography needs
- Manage photo assets, color corrections, and proofing; manage and organize the internal photo database and archive
- Ensure all photography and visual assets are delivered on time, in the correct format, and without disrupting daily workflow
- Conceptualize and design layouts for print and digital materials including editorial, marketing, and event collateral, following brand templates and styles
- Collaborate with the Art Director to develop new design concepts and workflows
- Demonstrate understanding of all phases of design production and processes

Requirements
- 2–3 years of graphic design experience; bachelor's degree in graphic design or equivalent work experience
- Strong portfolio showcasing both design and photography skills; food, lifestyle, or editorial experience a plus
- A genuine passion for food culture, culinary storytelling, and the world of food and lifestyle media
- Strong editorial eye for photography, an intuitive sense of great composition, food and lifestyle aesthetics, and visual storytelling
- Proficiency in page layout, typography, editorial grids, style sheets, and templates
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat) and MS Office
- Openness to working with AI-assisted design tools as part of a modern production workflow
- Well-organized with strong attention to detail, time management, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines with shifting priorities
- Positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and a collaborative spirit
