Job Description

Head of Design | Elevated Everyday Home Brand | Remote US

A taste led $50M Amazon home brand is hiring its next Head of Design. The role sets the creative direction for every product the brand makes across stationery, planners, home decor, baby and kids, kitchen, and giftable categories, with a single question in mind: "Will this sell, and is it beautiful?"

Please read before applying. This is a physical product design role. You will be designing planners, notebooks, ceramic vases, linen throws, wall art, wooden storage, baby blankets, and giftable objects that ship in boxes to real homes across the US. It has zero overlap with UX, UI, app design, SaaS, web, front end, or any digital only product work. It is also not a brand marketing, campaign, identity, or packaging creative director role, and not an industrial or furniture form designer role. If your portfolio is primarily screens, campaigns, logos, or chairs, this will not be the right fit and we will not be able to progress your application.

You will lead a team of five to eight designers and product developers and report directly to the founder. Decisions are made in days, not weeks.

The aesthetic

The frame is "elevated everyday." Warm modern minimalism. Muted earthy palettes of sage, beige, blush, terracotta, cream and dusty blue. Never neon, never primary. Generous white space. Linen textures, wood tones, organic shapes. A little gold foil where it earns its place. Modern serif paired with a clean sans.

The customer shops at Target and Amazon, aspires to Pottery Barn and Studio McGee, follows interior designers on Instagram and Pinterest, and wants beautiful things without paying premium prices.

What you will do

  • Set creative direction across every physical product category before anything gets built
  • Decide what the line should look like season to season across 500 plus SKUs annually
  • Own colour strategy, palette architecture, and cross category cohesion
  • Build, mentor, and direct a cross functional design and product development team of five to eight
  • Partner directly with the founder on trend, taste, and commercial calls

What you will need

  • Ten plus years designing physical consumer products, ideally across two or more of: home decor, stationery and paper goods, baby and kids, tabletop and kitchen, or soft home textiles
  • Track record running a cross category design team at a DTC, retail, or Amazon native brand
  • Deep US market taste fluency, evidenced in your portfolio and/or your Pinterest
  • Commercial instinct — you can look at a product and say "this will sell at $XX on Amazon" or "this will not"
  • Previous exposure to brands in the orbit of West Elm, Pottery Barn, Anthropologie Home, Lulu and Georgia, Rifle Paper Co, Studio McGee, Hearth and Hand, Mushie, Gathre, Liewood, Ferm Living, Papier, Target private label, or equivalent

Logistics

Fully remote. US and Canada preferred. Other regions considered case by case.

$120,000 to $180,000 USD per year depending on experience. Small, lean, fast.
