The Role

We’re looking for an exceptional Backend Engineer to help design and build the v1 of our public-facing API from ground up.

This role is for an engineer who enjoys building backend systems or APIs from the ground up and cares deeply about reliability, performance, scalability and developer experience. You’ll own features end-to-end: Infrastructure, API design, security & authentication, documentation and integrations.

As an early member of the engineering team, you’ll have real ownership and influence: shaping architecture, defining standards, and building systems that carriers, brokers, and employers rely on every day.

What You’ll Do

Ship v1 of our Public API

Build and ship v1 of our public REST API with builtin secure authentication flows and security against vulnerabilities and attacks.

API Design & Documentation

Design RESTful endpoints with usability in mind and maintain high-quality documentation using tools like Swagger/OpenAPI to ensure external ease of use.

Build supporting Infrastructure

Architect and build the supporting infrastructure on AWS that are needed to ensure API is scalable and performance such as authorization, rate limiting, idempotency, pagination, observability, sandbox environments.

Collaborate cross-functionally

Work closely with Product, Design, Sales, and Client teams to understand customers and partners needs and translate them into our API.

Continuously improve systems

Refine existing architecture, reduce operational complexity, and help define what “great” looks like as the platform scales.

Technical Experience We’re Excited About

• 3+ years of experience building scalable backend systems and APIs.
• Strong experience with Node.js or Go on the backend.
• Hands-on experience building and scaling public-facing API or developer SDK in production.
• Experience with relational databases (we use MySQL) and an understanding of data modeling for multi-tenant or high-throughput systems.
• Experience with testing, observability, documentation and maintaining production systems.

Experience in insurance, healthcare, or financial services is a plus, but not required.
