Job Description

At Opareta, we are building digital infrastructure and tools to rethink how mobile money agent networks operate. Our platform is designed to help mobile money agents digitize their operations, access data insights, and gain access to working capital and other products to grow their businesses sustainably.

The data team is expanding and we are looking for an experienced data professional to join it, working closely with the Head of Data and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive data-driven decision-making. “Users First” is the cornerstone of our operating principles at Opareta, and in this role, you will help us understand the underlying factors that drive agent happiness and success. You will play a pivotal role in identifying areas for product enhancement, elevating the quality of our services, and optimizing our operational efficiency.

If you possess unwavering curiosity, a drive to tackle complex data challenges, and a passion for supporting users, all while being excited about joining a rapidly-growing team and company, we’d love to hear from you.

This position is fully remote.

About you
  • 5+ years in a similar position
  • Fluent in SQL: you know the difference between SQL that works and performant SQL
  • Experience with modern data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, etc.) and GCP or AWS
  • Passionate about data, metrics, and dashboarding (e.g. Tableau, Looker)
  • Experience using the command line and Git
  • Knowledge of Python and/or R
  • Strong analytical thinking, communication, and presentation skills
  • Curious: you love experimenting and don’t rest until you find the “why” and “how”

Bonus points
  • Hands-on experience with dbt (or equivalent) and a solid grasp of data modeling fundamentals (dimensional modeling, slowly changing dimensions, event-based modeling, etc.)
  • Familiarity with building and operating data pipelines, and with orchestrators like Apache Airflow (or Prefect, Dagster, Luigi)
  • Comfortable with modern software engineering practices — code review, CI/CD, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code
  • Knowledge of statistics, with a baseline understanding of designing, running and evaluating A/B tests
  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML methods including classification, clustering, time-series forecasting, and NLP.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, startup environment
  • (Advanced) degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Math, CS)

You get to
  • Help craft the company’s Business Intelligence strategy and create reports and dashboards that are actionable and used across multiple teams at Opareta to make strategic decisions, and by clients to run their operations
  • Perform data analyses for external teams and clearly communicate findings to a broad range of stakeholders
  • Help build the data modeling layer, which exposes clean transformed data to the whole company for analytics and advanced data science use cases
  • Partner with data and engineering teams to build the infrastructure to track key business metrics.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for data-driven insights and improvements in business processes

If you are interested in joining our team but don’t tick every box, we still encourage you to apply. We are building a diverse team whose skills, experiences and background complement one other. We are happy to consider where you might be able to make the biggest impact.

Opareta is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity. All qualified candidates regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, race, orientation or religion are encouraged to apply.
