We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator with expertise in MS SQL Server and Sybase to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing our database systems across development, testing, and production environments. This role requires a proactive professional capable of supporting large development teams, ensuring 24x7 system availability, and implementing robust security measures to protect sensitive PHI/PII data. The Database Administrator will play a critical role in ensuring high performance, disaster recovery, and compliance standards are met, while also supporting multi-cloud environments such as Azure, AWS, and Snowflake.
This is a fully remote position offering flexibility and the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with development, operations, and security teams to deliver reliable database solutions and continuous improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an MS SQL Server Database Administrator.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience with Sybase database management.
- Proven experience supporting 24x7 high-availability systems.
- Strong proficiency in SQL Server features such as AlwaysOn, Performance Tuning, and Windows Patching.
- Extensive knowledge of Sybase features including Replication, Log Shipping, and Physical Database Support.
- Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, BASH, and Python for automation tasks.
- Familiarity with scheduling tools like Autosys and Linux shell scripting.
- Understanding of multi-cloud environments including Azure, AWS, and Snowflake.
- Knowledge of backup/recovery strategies, disaster recovery planning, and security controls for sensitive data.

- Administer, install, migrate, patch, and maintain MS SQL Server and Sybase databases across various environments.
- Implement high-availability solutions such as AlwaysOn, Replication, Log Shipping, and Clustering to ensure system uptime.
- Perform routine backup and recovery operations, disaster recovery planning, and testing.
- Monitor and optimize database performance through indexing, statistics updates, query tuning, and partitioning.
- Troubleshoot deadlocks, replication issues, and log shipping problems for both SQL Server and Sybase databases.
- Manage database security, including user permissions, roles, and compliance with PHI/PII standards and legal guidelines.
- Provide 24x7 rotational operational support, including weekends, for critical Tier-1 and Tier-2 systems.
- Proactively monitor database activity using third-party tools such as Autosys, and resolve issues promptly.
- Analyze logs and system metrics to identify anomalies and performance bottlenecks.
- Automate routine tasks and workflows using scripting languages like PowerShell, BASH, and Python.
- Support hybrid cloud environments, including Azure, AWS, Snowflake, and Netezza, ensuring seamless integration and performance.
- Collaborate with development teams to assess the impact of database changes and implement best practices for security and access controls.
- Document database environments, configurations, processes, and workflows for operational transparency and knowledge sharing.
- Maintain strong communication with IT teams, business stakeholders, and peers to ensure alignment and effective problem resolution.
