Location: 100% Remote (U.S.)
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
Compensation: $140,000 - $160,000
About the Opportunity
A growing enterprise organization is seeking a Modern Workplace Engineer (DWX) to help support, enhance, and evolve its digital workplace environment. This individual will play a key role in maintaining collaboration, endpoint management, identity, and productivity platforms while partnering closely with support teams and business stakeholders to deliver a seamless employee technology experience.
We're looking for someone who enjoys solving difficult technical problems, improving operational processes, and helping end users succeed. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable troubleshooting a complex escalation, implementing new solutions, documenting best practices, and identifying opportunities for automation.
What You'll Do
- Provide engineering support across Microsoft cloud technologies, endpoint management, identity services, collaboration platforms, and workplace productivity solutions.
- Investigate escalated technical issues, identify root causes, and implement long-term solutions rather than temporary workarounds.
- Partner with Service Desk and End User Support teams to improve operational maturity through documentation, knowledge transfer, and process improvement.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and support runbooks.
- Participate in the deployment, configuration, administration, and optimization of workplace technologies.
- Execute technology initiatives from planning through implementation, testing, deployment, and operational handoff.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, architecture, and application teams to support enterprise-wide initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency through scripting and modern management tools.
- Contribute to incident, problem, and change management activities while maintaining a strong service-oriented mindset.
- Utilize modern AI-assisted tools where appropriate to accelerate troubleshooting, documentation, analysis, and operational effectiveness.

Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in systems administration, endpoint engineering, workplace technology, Microsoft cloud engineering, or related infrastructure roles.
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilities.
- Hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365 technologies within enterprise environments.
- Ability to work across multiple technologies and support functions with minimal oversight.
- Experience supporting identity, endpoint, collaboration, and productivity platforms at scale.
- Working knowledge of:
- PowerShell scripting
- Microsoft Graph API
- Git and version control
- CI/CD concepts and deployment processes
- Infrastructure-as-Code technologies such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM
- ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow or similar tools

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting executive leadership or highly visible user populations.
- Previous experience in Desktop Support, End User Computing, or Service Desk environments.
- Microsoft certifications such as:
- MS-102 (Microsoft 365 Administrator)
- MD-102 (Endpoint Administrator)
- SC-300 (Identity & Access Administrator)
- ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent service management training.
- Experience incorporating AI tools into engineering or operational workflows.
- Exposure to regulated environments with change management, audit, or compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with Power Platform, workflow automation, or ServiceNow development.
