About The Role

We are seeking a full-time, remote Junior UI/UX Designer to join our team supporting a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) project. This role involves applying Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles to develop intuitive, accessible, and user-friendly applications tailored to meet the needs of veterans and government stakeholders. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with business analysts, developers, and stakeholders to translate complex workflows and requirements into compelling design solutions. You will be responsible for creating wireframes, mockups, and prototypes using tools like Figma, ensuring designs adhere to accessibility standards such as Section 508. You will also contribute to maintaining design systems and UI patterns, conduct user research and usability testing, and support accessibility audits and remediation efforts. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work on impactful projects in a collaborative, Agile environment, with a focus on continuous learning and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field
• Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a UI/UX Designer with a strong portfolio demonstrating user-centered and accessible design work
• Strong understanding of Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles
• Experience designing accessible interfaces supporting Section 508 compliance
• Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma
• Experience working within Agile development environments with iterative feedback cycles
  
  

Additional Qualifications

• Familiarity with VA Digital Service guidelines and USWDS (U.S. Web Design System)
• Experience supporting federal or government projects (e.g., VA, DHA, HHS)

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Business Analysts, developers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into intuitive design solutions
• Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes using Figma to communicate design intent
• Translate complex workflows into accessible, user-friendly interfaces
• Contribute to and maintain design systems, UI patterns, and documentation
• Conduct user research, usability testing, and analysis to inform design decisions
• Formulate research-driven questions to support indirect user discovery when direct access is limited
• Synthesize research insights into actionable design improvements
• Design applications in accordance with Section 508 accessibility standards and best practices
• Serve as a resource for accessibility guidance across teams, including developers and testers
