Manager, Human Resources

Position Purpose

Lead the human resources function on the Plant Leadership Team (PLT) in coordinating and optimizing human resources and training/development functions to meet or exceed established plant goals. This role goes beyond traditional HR responsibilities by serving as an active leader in developing the PLT, salaried workforce, and hourly workforce.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and lead the human resources function within the manufacturing plant or distribution center through collaboration with business leaders in all other functional areas and the Corporate office
  • Ensure the AWC culture exists and flourishes in the plant; intervene when cultural imperatives are not being met
  • Assist the plant manager in developing the PLT through team building, organizational development, succession planning, IDPs, and PIPs
  • Maintain strong HR presence on the plant floor.
  • Coordinate all salary and hourly recruiting activities proactively.
  • Provide counseling and support on policy, benefits, salary administration, training/development, and performance issues.
  • Assist leadership with skills development for both PLT and floor‑level teams.
  • Monitor and coordinate governmental and regulatory compliance activities and report concerns to the appropriate Corporate contact.
  • Participate in employment actions to ensure compliance with employment laws and minimize litigation risk.
  • Work with Corporate HR and Legal to prepare documentation for employment‑related claims (EEOC, DOL, NLRB, OSHA, WC).
  • Maintain high transactional accuracy including employee files, PAFs, requisitions, and required reports.
  • Support SQDC targets and identify improvements to meet/exceed expectations.
  • Actively participate on teams/projects and seek best practices.
  • Oversee training efforts and ensure accuracy and consistency in delivery.
  • Coordinate and complete goal setting and performance appraisal processes.
  • Participate in wage and benefits surveys and report competitiveness concerns.
  • Communicate department expectations and motivate team members; develop HR supervisor where applicable.
  • Ensure policies are followed and provide guidance and counseling as needed.
  • Establish goals and conduct performance reviews.
  • Support and maintain a union‑free environment.
  • Provide a safe and productive work environment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Represent the company in community relations activities.
  • Demonstrates the cognitive, language, reasoning, and mathematical abilities consistent with the expectations of this role.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all core values, policies, and standards.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Work Experience

  • 8+ years human resource management experience; manufacturing or distribution center - Required
  • 5+ years supervision experience across multiple departments - Required
  • 5+ years developing individuals and teams in a high‑performance environment - Required
  • 5+ years track record of strong project management - Required

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
  • Excellent computer skills in a network environment (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Management style must align with CITE principles
  • Strong planning, organization, and time‑management skills
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving abilities
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business/technical journals and financial reports
  • Ability to respond to inquiries/complaints from customers, agencies, or the public
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations to production teams, plant leadership, or public groups
  • Ability to apply basic math concepts to manufacturing or financial performance data
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions in various formats and work with abstract or concrete variables

Education

  • Bachelors Degree human resources, business administration or related discipline - Required
  • Masters Degree human resources, business administration or related discipline - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • SHRM-CP - Preferred or
  • SHRM-SCP - Preferred or
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR)-HRCI - Preferred or
  • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR)-HRCI - Preferred
