Job Description
The Upper Peninsula Power Company seeks a Vice President of Information Technology (VP of IT). This position is based at UPPCO’s corporate office in Marquette, Michigan, and offers a hybrid work option for those within a reasonable driving distance of Marquette. The VP of IT will lead the technology, cybersecurity, data, and operational systems that help keep electricity flowing safely and reliably across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
This is a senior leadership role for someone who sees technology as more than systems and software. You’ll help shape how UPPCO uses IT, operational technology (OT), cybersecurity, data, telecommunications, and emerging technologies to strengthen reliability, manage risk, improve efficiency, and support the company’s future. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

- Lead Technology Strategy. Oversee UPPCO’s IT, OT, cybersecurity, data, and telecommunications functions while developing a long-term technology roadmap aligned with company goals.
- Strengthen Critical Systems. Provide executive oversight of technology architecture, systems implementation, resilience, business continuity, and operational reliability.
- Protect the Organization. Lead cybersecurity strategy, risk management, security standards, employee education, regulatory compliance, and governance of cybersecurity and AI programs.
- Advance Utility Technology. Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve operations, efficiency, security, customer service, and business performance.
- Guide Major Systems & Projects. Oversee technology planning, ERP strategy, project proposals, resource needs, implementation, and system upgrades.
- Own Disaster Recovery. Develop and manage UPPCO’s IT Disaster Recovery Plan and coordinate technology recovery efforts with broader business continuity planning.
- Lead the Team. Build, develop, and retain a high-performing technology organization with clear expectations, accountability, and opportunities for professional growth.
- Manage the Investment. Develop and execute operating and capital budgets while balancing technology needs, risk, business value, and long-term priorities.

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity or a related field is required; Master’s degree a bonus.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in information technology, cybersecurity, systems, or related disciplines is required.
- Experience leading teams and working across departments to translate business and operational needs into technology strategy.
- Utility industry experience or strong knowledge of utility operations, infrastructure, and regulations is especially helpful.
- Experience with operational technology systems such as EMS, SCADA, or AMI.
- Familiarity with NERC and FERC regulatory frameworks a bonus.
- Strong experience planning, overseeing, or steering an ERP system in a regulated environment.
- Experience developing enterprise AI strategy, governance, policies, or responsible-use practices.
- Moderate travel is expected.
