Data Architect / Data Modeler

We are seeking an experienced Data Architect / Data Modeler to support a Case Management Modernization (CMM) initiative for a federal agency. This role focuses on designing and governing enterprise data models for a secure, cloud-based Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) supporting analytics, reporting, metadata management, and compliance.

This role is part of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) team and is responsible for designing, implementing, and governing logical and physical data models that support secure data ingestion, high-quality analytics, scalability, and compliance with federal data governance, classification, and security requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Data Classification & Governance

• Develop and maintain CMM data classification standards for sensitive and high-value data.
• Facilitate workshops to define security controls and data handling requirements.
• Incorporate classification requirements into system design, procurement specifications, and training materials.
• Establish compliance monitoring processes and resolve operational classification issues.
• Align classification outcomes with federal risk tolerance and operational needs.

Metadata Management & Data Catalog

• Configure metadata structures, workflows, automation, and security settings within the Qlik/Talend platform.
• Integrate classification metadata and labels into enterprise catalog structures.
• Develop ingestion processes for case management metadata, including defining catalog attribute descriptions.
• Create and deliver training materials, job aids, and communications to support user adoption.
• Monitor metadata and catalog performance post-migration and implement optimization updates.

Data Architecture & Modeling

• Design and maintain enterprise logical and physical data models for the EDW and downstream data marts.
• Define dimensional, relational, and analytical schemas optimized for reporting and analytics workloads.
• Translate business requirements and Source-to-Target Mappings (STTMs) into accurate data structures.
• Partner with data engineers to support model-driven ETL/ELT implementations.
• Ensure alignment with data governance standards, classification policies, and security controls.
• Establish and enforce naming conventions, modeling standards, and version control.
• Support data quality, integrity, and consistency across integrated source systems.
• Optimize data models for query performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Maintain metadata, lineage, and model documentation for inclusion in the enterprise catalog.
• Participate in architecture and design reviews, providing data modeling expertise.
• Support testing, validation, and reconciliation of data transformations.
• Produce and maintain audit-ready documentation for all data models and design decisions.

Collaboration & Delivery

• Operate within an Agile federal delivery environment.
• Collaborate closely with BI architects, data engineers, and business analysts.
• Maintain accountability for data model quality, consistency, and performance.
• Ensure continuous audit readiness and documentation accuracy.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• MA/MS degree with 10+ years of general information systems experience and 8+ years of specialized experience
• OR equivalent experience in lieu of degree:
• HS: 16+ years
• AA/AS: 14+ years
• BA/BS: 12+ years
• PhD/Doctorate: 9+ years
• Experience in data architecture and data modeling roles.
• Proven expertise in logical, physical, and dimensional data modeling.
• Experience supporting enterprise EDW and analytics platforms (Snowflake).
• Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational and analytical databases.
• Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments.
• Ability to produce clear, structured, audit-ready documentation.
• Experience supporting federal data programs.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake data modeling.
• Familiarity with data governance, metadata management, and lineage tools.
• Experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS preferred).
• Experience mentoring junior data modelers or data engineers.

• Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)
• Snowflake SnowPro Advanced
• AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty
