We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer / Developer to support a federal agency. This role is part of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) team and focuses on building secure, scalable, cloud-native data pipelines and services that enable analytics, reporting, and compliance-driven data products.
About the Role
The Senior Data Engineer / Developer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining high-quality data engineering solutions aligned with federal standards and EDW modernization objectives.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement near–real-time and batch data pipelines integrating data into Snowflake
- Develop and maintain dimensional data models and downstream data marts
- Build and support ETL/ELT workflows to meet reporting, analytics, and operational needs
- Collaborate with architects to implement logical and physical data models in Snowflake
- Develop secure, reusable, and testable data services and transformation logic
- Integrate pipelines with cloud services, messaging, and storage platforms
- Implement data quality checks, validations, and error-handling mechanisms
- Optimize pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
- Support CI/CD-enabled deployments, automated testing, and environment promotion
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and Agile ceremonies
- Troubleshoot pipeline issues and perform root cause analysis
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, STTMs, and workflows
- Ensure solutions meet federal security, governance, and audit requirements
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in software, data, or cloud engineering
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong experience designing and building enterprise-scale data pipelines
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake and advanced SQL
- Experience with ETL/ELT frameworks and data transformation techniques
- Experience with AWS data and compute services
- Experience using Airflow or similar orchestration tools
- Knowledge of cloud messaging and storage services
- Experience supporting near–real-time or streaming data ingestion
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum delivery environments
- Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments
- Familiarity with data governance, metadata, and classification standards
- Experience mentoring junior developers or engineers
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting federal EDW or analytics programs
- Background in secure coding and system security best practices
- Experience migrating or modernizing legacy data platforms
- Experience with BI or reporting integrations (Tableau, SAP BO, or similar)
Preferred Certifications
- Snowflake SnowPro Core
- AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty
- Relevant data engineering or programming certifications
