Job Description

Job Title: Senior Analytics Engineer – BI & Data Visualization

Location: 100% Remote (Continental U.S.)

Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire

Compensation: $150,000 – $240,000 (Dependent on experience)

The Opportunity: Build the Backbone of a New Data & AI Center of Excellence

We are a mission-driven non-profit organization focused on improving public health systems and healthcare outcomes for disenfranchised populations—including veterans, older adults, women, and children. With approximately 150 employees, we work closely with federal/state partners on complex, regulated problems where data trust is paramount.

Why this role matters now: We have recently hired a new VP of Data Science & AI to build a Center of Excellence (CoE) from the ground up. We are looking for a foundational hire to serve as the "last-mile translator" between advanced data systems and the decision-makers who rely on them.

This is not just a delivery role; it is a chance to shape how data, analytics, and ML platforms are built, governed, and reused across the entire organization.

What You Will Do

You will bridge the gap between raw data pipelines and actionable insights. You will set the standards, build the templates, and create the reusable metrics that power insights organization-wide.

  • Analytics Engineering: Own dbt projects across public health and behavioral health domains. Create and manage semantic models, data contracts, and versioned transformations.
  • Metric Definition: Define and govern reusable metrics (dimensions, risk adjustment, composite measures) to ensure a "single source of truth."
  • Data Storytelling & BI: Lead the design of executive-ready dashboards using Power BI. Translate complex methods (quasi-experimental results, NLP outputs, ML predictions) into policy-ready visuals.
  • Governance & Quality: Implement rigorous validation (dbt tests), maintain a centralized metrics catalog, and manage BI versioning/lineage.
  • Enablement: Mentor the team on Analytics Engineering best practices, provide visualization coaching, and publish accelerator packages (dbt bundles/templates) to improve delivery speed.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Experience: 5–8 years as an Analytics Engineer, BI Lead, or similar role.
  • Tech Stack Mastery: Strong proficiency in SQL and dbt (macros, documentation, CI/CD) and mastery of Power BI (DAX, Power Query/M, RLS, deployment pipelines).
  • Data Modeling: Strong background in dimensional design, star schemas, and performance tuning.
  • Engineering Discipline: Strong Git workflows, code review practices, and documentation discipline.
  • Communication: The ability to present complex analytics solutions to non-technical stakeholders and incorporate feedback.

Preferred Qualifications ("The Superstar")

  • Experience integrating ML outputs into dashboards (SHAP, drift, feature importance).
  • Familiarity with Public Health, Medicaid/Medicare domains, or health equity methods.
  • Experience with Python/R for analysis or geospatial mapping.
  • Knowledge of FHIR-to-analytics models.
  • Experience with AWS-based data sources (Redshift, Athena) or Databricks/Snowflake.

Benefits & Culture

  • Remote-First: 100% remote work environment (must be based in the continental U.S.).
  • Mission-Driven: Your work directly impacts real populations and improves public health outcomes.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Competitive medical/dental/optical, 401K with employer contribution and gainsharing, and tuition assistance.
  • Work-Life Balance: Generous PTO, 8 company holidays + 3 floating holidays, and a flexible work environment.

Application Requirement: Candidates must be presently eligible to work in the United States and will not require sponsorship now or in the future.

Next Steps: If you are an Analytics Engineer who loves dbt craftsmanship, semantic modeling, and telling complex stories with data, we want to hear from you. Apply today to help us build our new Center of Excellence!
