We are searching for a Member of Technical Staff, Synthetic Data for our frontier AI model lab client. In this position, you will build the datasets, evaluation systems, internal tools, and user interfaces that help researchers understand and improve model behavior. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who combines strong coding ability with product intuition, moves quickly in ambiguous environments, and wants to help build reliable AI systems for real-world use.

As Member of Technical Staff, Synthetic Data, you will:

• Build high-leverage datasets, products, and user interfaces that unlock new model capabilities and use cases
• Rapidly develop internal tools for model evaluation, debugging, and data inspection
• Create and own evaluation frameworks measuring model quality, reliability, and emerging behaviors
• Run experiments and analyses to understand how data, training decisions, and targeted interventions affect model performance
• Turn raw model outputs and complex data into clear, inspectable user interfaces
• Own technical domains end to end, from identifying the problem through implementation and iteration
• Partner with product managers and customers to translate real-world needs into model and system improvements
• Work primarily in Python, with TypeScript, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, and Kubernetes also used across the stack
• Continuously explore new techniques for building trustworthy, production-ready AI products

Who we're searching for / About you:

• Approximately 3-7 years of software engineering experience, with strong fundamentals and coding ability
• Hands-on experience implementing LLM-powered systems and a practical understanding of their capabilities and limitations

• Strong product intuition and an interest in how technical systems are actually used
• Experience building data tools, evaluation systems, experimentation platforms, or user-facing interfaces
• Ability to investigate model outputs critically rather than trusting automated results at face value
• Comfortable moving quickly, prototyping solutions, and working through loosely defined problems
• Strong analytical skills and experience designing rigorous experiments
• High attention to detail and a strong standard for quality
• Willingness to work fully in person with a small, highly collaborative team

Logistics:

• Full-time, direct-hire position
• Fully in person in San Francisco near Embarcadero Station
• Base salary of $180,000-$250,000 plus equity, depending on experience and leveling
• Visa sponsorship available
